My peacock's eye is swollen, well under his eye and I checked it out by opeining the eye lid and his eye is gone!!! There is no blood, it doesnt look gross or pussy its simply swollen under his eye socket and his eye is gone. I have put him in a secluded area and washed the eye socket out with an antibiotic gel. Started him on some anitbiotics in his water but its so swelled I dont think he can eat or drink anything and Im worried that might make it worse. Any suggestions? Should I give him a shot of something to reduce the swelling or just give a couple days to see if the swelling goes down? Also, could the swelling be his actual eye? I'm so cunfused and there is no vet within a hundred miles that looks at peacocks

The swelled part is not hard. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you post a picture?
Many here seem to have experience with pea eye and sinus problems, and they may be able to give you better advice if they can see the problem.

possibly nail, screw,or a piece of wire some times birds lose eyes. BUT this is not detrimental they adapt really quickly I had chickens growing up that had lost eyes. sounds like you are on the right track . keep us informed .

New to peafowl I was not aware of sinus infections in peafowl glad you and Yoda have brought this up .....

Hey chick,
To post a picture you click onto the "insert image" link. It is 5 icons to the left of the smilely face or 2 to the left of the paper clip. I believe he has a cyst and his eye is most likely behind it. You will most likely need to remove the cyst. This is what mine looked like in this thread I had a male and a female get them.

Thank you all so much. I sprayed some gel called Vetricyn in his eye yesterday, today the swelling has gone down enough for me to see his eye! I'm so happy he did not loose it. But now his other eye is swollen and his nose is stopped up. I cleaned him up and am going to attempt to put the pictures on here. I read the other forums and appreciate the information. After looking at the pictures I'm attempting to put on here in a sec, do you still think it requires laceration? I tried to up load the pictures again, didnt work

I will post them in my gallery again. Thank you for taking the time to help me!!!

Great news about his eye!
I think that Yoda will be the person best equipped to answer your question, but I am guessing that you will need to take some action.
If the swelling is soft, it may be just pus in there and not a cyst (what do you think, Yoda?).
But since it is spreading, you likely need to do something or the poor guy won't be able to breathe at all.

This article might be useful to you (from Hopkin's great website):

Also, I really recommend you get him to a vet.
I understand all too well that this isn't easy or cheap, but I can't tell you what a difference it made to my sweet boy Peggy.
He was very sick with pneumonia for months but once I got the correct dose of the correct medication from the vet, it cleared up in days.

Thank you so much. You guys are amazing with all your advice and links to other information. I am so grateful to have such an on line community so eager to help a peacock in need.

I will keep you updated on his progress and Yoda, if you could look at my pictures from today and tell me if you think i should try and syringe the swollen area i would appreciate all advice. So far he seems to be doing better since using the gel spray and antibiotic in the water. The wind here has picked up and maybe that is the reason for the sinus (if that is it), also he is free range and sleeps in a tree and it has been stormy and rainy (praise God) for the last week so could be that I guess...
