My peacock lost his eye

Yes he has a cyst and it went through the other side. You need to lance the bad side and get it out. Hopefully you won't need to do the other side. You will have to cut the bird like I did. Start at the bottom of the lump not the top near the eye. Be sure you have plenty papertowel he will bleed a bit. I cut the bird and held a papertowel til it almost stopped then cut some more. A little at a time for the first time. If you lived by me I would say bring the bird over and I will show you. I still cringe when doing it though. Here is another thread showing the cutting involved:

If you know a vet you can always show them the threads and see if they will do it if you are unable to. If you do not remove the cyst the bird will die on you, good luck and keep us posted.

I did it!! I will post the pictures in my gallery. Had to do both eyes but he acts like he is grateful. Thank you Yoda!

I pray that I never have to do that again but if I do I will have some experience under my belt. I will keep you updated on his recovery. Any advice on things to watch for so the wound doesn't get infected or just get well meds that seem to work better than others?... Thanks again

Yoda, If you would please look at the post surgery pics and let me know if I need to pop the bubble that is in his eye. It looks like it might be puss but I didn't want to pop it in case its just a swollen duct or something. Thank you soo much and God bless you all

Congratulations!

You are really brave, and it looks like you did a great job.
I'm sure your guy will feel a lot better.
I'll leave it for Yoda for proper answers your questions, but it may just be his inner eyelid that's inflamed there - I'm thinking you should leave it alone for now. And just keep it clean.
Please do keep us updated.

Mine did not have that. I would leave it and let him rest. Watch it and see if it goes down. It kinda looks like the water buggies that run from the nose when they get the cyst that had no where to go. Hopefully it will go down. Be sure to rinse the inside with a saline solution and let it air dry. It will look a little swollen for a few days but you will see it heal. The eye actually looks good, nice and clear. Great Job!!

Do you have tylan or baytril? I use baytril and give him a shot just under the skin at the base of the neck to keep out infections

Thank you! He is doing amazing this morning! He feels so good he wouldn't let me catch him easily like the last couple days. The spot on the eye looks like it is going down. The incisions look good and I am putting Vetericyn on it 3 times a day and I have antibiotics in the water. I will get the baytril or tylan. Thanks again.
May the Lord bless you and keep you! Numbers 6:24

As long as he is on antibiotics he will be fine. Great job!
