My peacock lost his eye

No she only did one eye. I was hoping that when she removed the first one she could get out the second one. I thought she did too cause she posted a pic with a clear bubble covering half the good eye, which I never seen before. I misunderstood her until she posted the picture. She needs to get the cyst out of the other eye as well.

Yoda, she said she "had to do both eyes," and that the "incisions" (plural) were doing good.
I think she did already do both sides.
Don't you think it would be a good idea for her to see a vet now?
I know from personal experience that this can be expensive (yikes!) and also quite inconvenient.
But I'm guessing that this might be a critical point for the guy, because she has essentially done all that she can do (and done it very well, good work).
Ongoing infection REQUIRES attention or the bird will die.

If she did cut this side too then she will need to take a wet warm rag and hold it to the birds face to soften the cut and gently reopen it. She had to miss some because the face is swollen again. Be sure to look everywhere inside the cavity and rinse it with saline solution. She can also squirt some antiubiotic in it to. It should've healed like the other side is if done correctly. Also try to keep him confined for a few hours so nothing gets into the cut. Do not feed him til the next day. he might have food caught in or against the cuts after all he has two not one.

Yes, I did do both eyes and rinsed them both with solution. I will reopen that side and see if I left any. Thank you both. Also, my first response to his swollen eye was a vet. There is not one within a 200 miles and when I spoke with them they said it would cost 200.00 just to see him! So I opted for the do it yourself. I actually worked for a vet for a little while (cattle and horse vet) so I have some confidence in dealing with animals. (I never worked with birds though and my local vet says he knows only what he remembers from school- which was a very very long time ago. haha) Anyway, I will keep you posted, thanks!!

ok, Reopened wounds and that eye had A LOT more of the cyst back in it. I guess I didnt get it all but make no mistake about it, this time he is clean through and through. I think I may have been a little intimidated before but I felt a lot more comfortable with it this time. I would like to know if there is something to keep this from happening again?

Good job jesus chick.
I do not think there is anything we can do to stop it, i see on here it happens all over the place no matter where or how they are kept.

I lost a hen to a sinus infection but she never swelled up in the face like most birds so i did not catch it till it way way to late.

Awe, I'm so sorry Zazous. I guess I will just have to rely on my prayers to keep him well. :) It is what got us through the surgery. I'm so thankful for all the educated and concerned people!

being a part of this community. I will keep you updated but he is doing so much better. I can even see his eye again.

Using the baytril or Tylan will help with the secondary infections. Sounds like you have everything well under control.

I think the key to keeping infection free is plenty of clean dry living space, well balanced nutrition, and general stress reduction. It seems I only see sinus infections with stressed birds. I do think allowing them the opportunity to stay dry/warm is important. These birds do crave sunlight.

my vet removed the cyst from my peacock eye on Feb 26/13 and the eye is still swollen is this nornal after a week?
