Body Hatching

Dude, I think want to try this. At first I thought this post was a joke but then I was like "Hey.... that might actually work."
Well, my incubator is full so I might as well. My only question is, how do you uncover some of the egg to let it breathe if it's... y'know, in there?

Clothes are porous so they can breathe from there I think. It actually does work
I had deaths close to hatching date and they're fully formed.

I actually tried this when I was a kid. I begged & begged my mom for an egg from a relative's farm to hatch on my own. She caved but one day my egg 'mysteriously' disappeared. I'm sure my mother took it away from me, thinking it would go bad if a non-chicken tried hatching.

I vaguely remember holding it gently, cupping it in my hands, close to my body & then keeping it warm near a little lamp for heat at night. I used to do this for newborn puppies/kittens so I figured it'd be the same. Shame I couldn't find out what would have happened, I may try this again one day.

Yes, I think because your clothes can breathe you don't really need to worry about it. I did however wrap the eggs in a very thin tissue to keep my sweat from affecting. I had a similar problem the first few attempts to pontanna, where they would make it to the end but die before hatching. But managed to perfect it over time. Was concerned my sweat would suffocate it or allow for bacteria that could kill the developing chick, as i did these hatching experiments in summer.

Maybe, I had my suspicions when working in a high rise on temp that the elevator ruined one of my hatches.

Quailsong, I used to dream about hatching a baby bird in my hands like that when i was younger. I used to steal chicken eggs from my mothers coop, draw a smiley face on them and carry them round like a baby. Make a little bed for them next to mine. We never had a rooster so i doubt they were ever fertile. But i did not know. I always hoped one of them would hatch. I guess this childhood dream is what pushed me to do this.

When the weather gets a bit warmer i will have another go. The bonding with the chick sent me into a very happy/domestic mood. It was kind of fun and i think i miss it. The chick is doing well still. But the quails in my mothers aivery are not laying yet. They tend to stop when the temperature drops.

If i time it right, I can make the hatch day halloween again and go for another spooky name. I'll keep you posted.
