***PICS*** Hen Stuck in Molt & Sick (Yellow Skin, Orange Comb and Wattles)

Pics
I tried putting a sweater on my girl but she tore it off a few hours later lol. It's worth a shot with a sweater. I don't think it will cause problems as long as it is not to snug.

How about a "Buff" - we do not have them here in France BUT somebody ( sorry for the pun!!!!) suggested I use one on a duck that has a problem.... I would think this could be an ideal solution for your cold baby....!

Hi, we had this and we gave aloe Vera gel (forever living stuff as it is the most pure and safe for animals), and mealworms. Kicked her out the molt in 2 days! We got the mealworms from the internet as much cheaper than in garden centres and the aloe Vera drinking gel from www.thespiritofaloe.com. We use the aloe Vera drink for lots of other poultry and waterfowl problems and it has been fab.

Hi Colorado - My chook looks identical to yours, in fact they could almost be twins!

Mine was mid-moult last year and still hasn't grown her feathers back properly. Now she has the yellow comb and skin. She always has lots of meal worms but her weight has definitely dropped and seems lighter.

Did you discover what the problem with yours was? Mine must be about 4 years old not, and not sure whether it might be age? The rest of the flock are in good health but younger than her.

I m still a massive believer in using the aloe drinking gel for this (and many other conditions for hens). It is a real pick me up for them and seems to do the trick with almost any malaise type illness/presentation.
We always have a bottle in the fridge as it keeps for months and give it to any hen that needs a pick me up.

Do you add misters? That could cause a mold issue.
If it is mold this or something similar might help just make sure it says activated BAMBOO charcoal

I have a SLW with this same thing! Maybe it’s a genetic thing with SLW? She molted in October and has looked like this since (5 months) She acts healthy, but comb is starting to turn orange. She is almost 2 years old.
