I went into my coop this morning to find a solid black egg right in the middle of there coop on the ground outside! I thought my chickens were suppose to lay white and brown eggs the breeds i have are Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons and Rhode Island Reds. Is this normal or is one of them sick?? I only have one chicken laying right now that started about a week ago they are only a few months old so i dont know why this egg is large and black? In the picture is the black egg next to a brown egg that were found together this morning

Wow that is strange. The breeds you have all lay brown eggs. I'm guessing it is just a fluke in their reproductive system. I don't think they are sick. I could be wrong though.

Wow. Never seen that before. I'd crack it open and see what color the shell is on the inside. I wouldn't eat it if I were you, though. I have no idea why you'd get a black egg, and there are absolutely no birds that lay black eggs of that size. Do you have tar in your run? Yikes.

No they have a normal enviorment to run in and im always outside with them when i let them free roam. I was checking up on this and other websites have told me that my chicken is sick but no one has clarified this yet!

(x2) on the cracking it open just to see the inside....but I wouldn't eat it either.

Don't worry definitely not going to eat it! I'm just afraid one of my hens are sick!

Theres no symptoms of them being sick, they're eating normally and i havent seen anything out of the ordinary

Im pretty sure its a chicken egg i dont have any other types of birds that could of laid this and i dont think someone put this in there for a joke, being that my coop is shut and locked tight at night.
