I got a "Toy" incubator made up and I cant wait to try it out.
We're going to do the QC check and make sure everything works by setting two eggs in it tonight. I'm hoping they are Houdans pure, but my Silkie roos wander with all the girls too so they might be mixed breed babies.

I was too excited to have it so I just took some quick pictures and closed the lid to let it go!
Feel free to hatch along or just watch the silly incubator work.

One of these two will be a new papa. (maybe both)

Almost candeling time, have to resist the urge to look at them every day.
I'm sure it wont make a huge difference, but have to test it fairly. An automatic incubator wont be opened every day.
Temp is holding well and had to give it a little more water.

I did the candleing and I was unimpressed and almost swapped them out. The yolk wasnt pretty or anywhere close to how I expected it to be. Honestly I was really aftraid they were infertile.
Must have been too early, or the little ones heard that they were on the chopping block because the next day I saw blood vessels and a little red dot.
Definatly like the papas and mamas here, they only seem to respond to threats.

Here are some pictures of the developing babies. Camera doesnt want to focus in the dark...

Day 5 night, what a difference a little threat makes.

Chambertin~ I put 8 buff orpington eggs in my first homemade incubator on Saturday. Took me a while to find someone else that set around the same day. I'll have to candle at 5 days too... everyone says 7 days, but yours look awesome!

Thanks. I was amazed at how rapidly it grew, but all the credit goes to the little one.
I'd take more pictures, but I really want them to have a nice quiet trip from yolk to chick.

Probably another picture update around day 10 or 12.

The incubator is working like a charm though, very happy.

Another update,
Temp is held constant and the little ones are loving it and growing well.
They're too big or too deep to get a good picture anymore. I checked one a couple days ago and saw it moving. Now its just too much for my little flashlight to see.

Fresh batteries made a difference, but still... cant see much.

Cool chambertin, I candled mine yesterday. Only 3 good ones. :( it's so neat to see their eye. I think another day or 2 and Imay see movement.

not a great pic, but you can see the eye near the top of the "x"
