I have a plymouth rock that's about 2 weeks old, the other night I heard her making "clicking" noises while she was sleeping, it wasn't constant, but she makes those noises when I handle her and often when she chirps. She also has a watery nose and bedding gets stuck to her nostrils whenever she's digging around. She had a bit of blood(?) in her nostril one time. Her behavior overall is fine except for that one time when I picked her up while she was sleeping and she just drooped down, but she eats, drinks, and sometimes runs a little crazy inside the brooder, she also scratches at her nose a lot, did she get water in her lungs or something? She's on medicated feed with apple cider vinegar in their water. Her face doesn't look swollen, at least I don't think it does, I've never seen a swollen baby chick face before... how does she look:

I really hope it's nothing serious, she's the only one who is calm when I handle her... please help.
Edit: The discharge around her nostrils are yellow, is it infected or contagious? Or could it the mash she eats?

yellow is infection. you might should start her on a water soluble antibiotic. while she is still drinking. I'd say if she were mine I'd put her on the antibiotic asap and separate her from the flock. blood in the nostril is another sign of infection. you can tell the difference between mash and mucus on the nostril because the mash is grainy looking . mucus looks more crusty and thinner. I'd say it's upper respiratory. the antibiotic should help with her symptoms. only problem is sometimes once symptoms are gone they remain carriers of the illness. but the antibiotics should help her out with her symptoms. if water soluble antibiotic doesn't help next go to injectable. but as long as she's drinking it should work out fine. I hope this is helpful and hope she gets well soon! best wishes to you! good luck.

What kind of anti-biotic, or like what brand would be most easiest to find for what she has?

Well now I am most certain that she has coryza, as shes developed a swollen area on the right side of her face. I took her to a bird farm the other day and they had me put ornacyn plus in their drinking water. I read that these powder type water dissolvents are not as effective as a tylan 200 injection though and i'll look into buying this if her condition doesnt improve in the next week or so.

dont even tell me to kill her or the rest of my chicks as I could never hurt an animal and this is my very first flock of chicks.

tylan 50, rather... does anyone know the dosage amount for a 2-3 week old chick?

i do not know the answer, but I just wanted to say I hope she gets better, what a sweetie. I could not harm any of my sweeties either, but I would keep her away from the others till this is resolved. she looks to be in really good contition. Sending good thoughts your way...

thank you blythspirit, it'll be difficult to separate her as I dont have any extra brooders or heat lamps but I was thinking of dividing the brooder with wire... not sure if thatd help since theyre still basically in the same area with only wire as a barrier

Update on the chick: shes still with me and tomorrow will be the last day i put ornacyn plus powder in their water. She still looks the same and the swollen area may have gotten bigger over the week im not sure but i just noticed shes gotten the small bubbles around her eye.

What really sucks is that we dont have a tractor supply company store in our area, the most closest one is like 50+ miles away, just to buy one bottle and thats even if they have tylan 50. i would check the availability on their website BUT IT DOESNT WORK neither does their store locator

i even checked on ebay and theres only one listing for tylan but its 200. looks like im out of luck for my poor chicky...

Here's a picture I just took of her... poor baby

It really sucks that this just had to happen on my very first flock of pet chickens... I don't even know how or where she got coryza from, as I try to keep their brooder clean. I take their poop out from their litter throughout the day and give them fresh water everyday. We ordered them from a hatchery.

You can also use LA-200 in place of the Tylan 50. Search the boards for dosages I think it is .01 ml per pound but check the other post to be sure.. Do you have any other feed stores in the area? If so they may have it. You can also get it online.
