I have 4 chicks :) 3 week old Wheatan/Blue Wheatan ameraucanas. I was told they are pure. But could be either wheatan/blue wheatan OR Splash O.O

I figured I'd start a thread to keep track in pictures on what they turn out to be. I searched long n hard for a pure for the blue egg. I better have a pullet!
After reading myself to sleep many nights now I fear I have 4 lil roo's! Clues lead me to believe one is a pullet! But has me 2nd guessing *her* too!
I know they're young and I won't know til it crows lol but this will help me in the future, I plan on more already hehehe

Chick 1 - my thought is pullet, but that comb is bigger than all the others.

My guesses are guesses mostly from a few Dar neck feathers, I really have no idea on color of each one
Heard it changes multiple times before laying lol

I have a post about a 7 week old Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana here also, so I'm obviously not confident about determining the gender. I also don't have another of the same breed for a side by side comparison, which I think is really helpful!!

For what it's worth, I'll give you my two cents. Based on the rate of feathering when comparing them all, I'd agree that the first two look like pullets, and 3 & 4 look like cockerals. 3 and 4 don't seem to have feathers coming in between their wings yet, while 1 and 2 do.

Again, not much experience with this breed.

Thanks. Ya, I figured it'd be easier for me to just keep a running thread and update it each week. Feel free to post yours here...I've been all over the web, so many people start this question but no follow throughs to the guesses! I really want to be able to do this as young as possible lol - don't we all :p but ya, I'd love a pair of pullets, settle for one! But always want more :)

Have an update 4 weeks, on chick number one and chick number three. So I can keep track lol and maybe others can comment or take a guess?

Also, Im thinking* and hoping lol #2 is a wheatan pullet (no pics yet) and #4 is a wheatan roo also .(no pics yet) Just taking a stab at colors! Have no clue but tid bits here and there I read. Any I suppose could also be Splash...

I Still think 1 is a pullet and 3 is a Roo.

Chick 1 -possible blue wheatan pullet? has stayed light colors when feathering in. Has thick legs (worries me lol) but comb is singling out the center row and head/chest and back feathers/pins coming in a light light brown or white but slight grey shading near tail. I think* it may be a blue wheatan pullet?

Chick 3 - suspect wheatan roo. I think* he is a wheatan roo. Has dark feathers coming in like a ring around neck much like the eagle looking roos I've seen, bossy, no head feathers yet unlike pullet, scrappy tail (pullet tail is like praying hands and fluffy) and comb has even 3 rows (instead of a pronounced center row.

hmmm.... I think my roo had more visible and red comb than yours (#3) at that age. But the feathering colors of mine look the same as yours, and he's a wheaten... so maybe it is boy.

Thanx! I'd love a pair of pullets lol and I think these chicks are a test of patience! I'm so egg-cited still about even the potential of blue eggs. Grow chickies grow!

Ok, so pics of the other two. From the 1st post this is #2 and #4. Im hoping #2 is a pullet (wheatan) and I think #4 is a roo (same eagle look starting as the other suspect roo-whos beak is pinking up -_-)

Chick #2, 4 weeks, suspect pullet, wheatan color?

Also, on the 2 suspect roos, there's a stripe of feathers, darker feathers coming in along their backs to their tails .the hopeful pullets, #1 chick does not have this. #2 chick *might*.

Gonna try to do pic updates of all 4 in same order as 1st post. This is week 5 tomorrow.

Thinking there is 1 blue wheatan pullet- 1 wheatan pullet & 2 roo's...haven't looked up coloring for the roo's yet.

Chick 1 pullet-blue Wheaton? Was 1st to feather in, has stayed light Colored throughout the chest, grew head feathers 1st, comb has center ridge more pronounced than the suspect roo's also.

Chick 2- hopeful pullet- wheatan I think! Light coloring, center ridge on comb bigger.

Chick 3- suspect roo- dark coloring, flat 3 rowed comb, bossy, combs pinking up (pics are right after they ate so they might be dirty) ring of neck feathers darkening with light head (eagle look of a few I've seen in pics)
