Thank you for this post! I currently have 5 Wheaten Ameraucana chicks (3.5 weeks old) and the pictures are great in helping me sex them. Any updated pictures?
Chick #2 - pullet (i hope!) Wheatan I think, tho seems to have some light blue in her :/ wing tips are black, chest feathers are light, comb has the higher center ridge compared to her brothers and is dull in color.
Sorry there dirty lol I always seem to take pics after eating or after them tearing in a garden lol ill try for cuter pics they're not all that cooperative
So I figured I'd toss a few more pics up as they age in case someone's don't feather in at the same time? And just to keep a log for the next batch I'm getting. Might help me sec them quicker! Lol
The roo chick #4 is the darkest coloring @ 8 weeks old. The wheatan pullet has black feather tips on her tail and wings but a light colored chest.
The blue wheatan pullet is sorta a creamy color all over, also a light colored chest.
Chick #1 pullet @ almost 9 weeks. Blue wheatan pullet I believe. She is just so sweet and her beard is filling in quite nicely- when I put them on FF, all the beards got plucked by them cleaning each other off lol. They've come back in nice.
Now I have concerns about chick #2 in week 9. Seemed to fit a wheaten pullet...
Yesterday "her" comb and face pinked up quite a bit and a few feathers on the wings are less "black tipped" and more splotchy now making me concerned its a young late blooming roo? A wheaten I think still. Making the 2 confirmed chicks that have new homes blue wheatens. Nooooooooooooo ANOTHER ROO?! :/ UG. these pic are all of "her" today. IF "she" is a roo, seems the blue wheaten roos are 1st to show sex...then blue wheaten pullets, then wheaten roos and wheaten pullets. Splash being last and holding out til a crow so far I've read.
