Raising our 1st set of CX meaties

These look fantastic. I do have one question - what is the PVC device in the picture above for. My first thought was that it was some kind of puppet show, but then thought it must have a practical purpose as you have been so methodical about everything else.....

Hahaha! I am wondering too!

Flash Dance Chickens?

It would have been REALLY nice if in all the research and advice and studying someone Whoulda mentioned that even after a chickens been plucked and beheaded- they still "ba-gawk!" & "cluck". And that they like to wait to do so until you're knuckle deep cleaning them...but nope, don't ever remember that. Now will ALWAYS.
Hahahahahaha.... I LOVE it. My 7 year old daughter almost had a heart attack while I was butchering, she heard that noise for the first time while I was eviscerating and, bolted into the kitchen and screamed at me for cutting up a live chicken...

"BUT MOM! IT"S STILL TALKING!!!?!"

That'd be our drying rack. We don't soak them in a brine, so after they're cleaned and rinsed we drip dry them for a few minutes before bagging them. I read some people brine them. We haven't tried it. Just chicken lol plus its easy to bag with this, no mess and skin hangs nicely for when they're shrink wrapped.

I wish I had all your thought and dedication..... I just ordered some more meatbirds, and your preparation and organization skills make me look bad! But........ in 12 weeks my freezer will need more food in it.

Trust me its chaos in this head lol but I love it. When do you get your lil nuggets?

We are debating on when to order the next set. I'd like another 50 I think. Maybe someone around here wants to order chicks too. We get better prices for larger orders but I Dunno if I want a hundred chicks AND 45 teenage chicks growing out now. lol

This batch growing is slow. Not as slow as layers buy definitely slower than my other CX orders. They're 3 weeks last Friday and ate still under a pound. Going to double feedings and monitor them. They're healthy and hungry and ready to be free outside but we have snow tomorrow :/ they are staying inside til its gone we lost 8 last batch due to a deep freeze. Not doing that again!

*note to self* do not drop mealies in one feeder...spread them out. Lol dinosaur ancestry was peeking! Rwar!

Mine are growing slow as well. I wonder if there is a difference between hatchery broilers and broilers from a local farm. I inquired about my order of broilers and they said it came from a local place.

As long as they are H.H.H. Healthy, Hungry and Happy is all that matters. I'm not stressing over my low weights either. It is what it is. The end result will be what matters. That's what I"m focusing on as well. I'm kinda hoping for 3 or 4 lb'ers for me for the freezer. I may decide to go with hatchery broilers next year to compare weights. Just a thought.:/
