Raising our 1st set of CX meaties

I ordered my last batch from a hatchery out west and they just were genetically smaller than the ones I got from TSC....they grew slower and had a different body style~short and short bodied..more cornish than rock. I wasn't real happy with how they finished out but they were very healthy and vigorous. The monster mongo CX I helped someone butcher this summer were from TSC and I've never seen bigger birds in my life...they were free ranged and fed FF organic feeds, healthy as horses and just as big.

If I get any CX in the spring it will be from TSC.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this information. I always see the broilers at TSC but never bought any. I may have to buy a few this year.

I bought my first set of meatbirds from Baumgarrs.... I didn't get what I wanted. The CX I supposedly got took 27 weeks to get to what I wanted in size. Hopefully the ones I ordered will be fast growing, as I specified very clearly that I didn't want to raise them for 6 months! They will be here before the first of March. :)

I got my CX from TSC last year during chick Days, and they were huge. I had roosters that weighed over 9 pounds dressed at 12 weeks!

I need to keep away from TSC during Chick Days. Last year got me into trouble with their straight run bantams. Holy roosters! Though, I have occasionally spotted silkies in there… and I do need some...

LOL. I have too many eggs to hatch to go there for chicks. I will be stocking up on brooder lamps and bulbs as well as egg cartons. They had the cartons on sale for 29 cents each last year. My only weakness would be getting some CX, but I have a bunch of capons and pullets that I need to process right now, that I wish I already had processed.

I have 15 CX's and 10 random layers being delivered beginning of March, I will try to resist, lol. I have such a soft spot for Silkies. I had my dream flock last year, splash silkie, blue, buff, whites, black, then 95% of my flock was wiped out by two dogs. My single Silkie survivor turned out to be a rooster. Go figure!
