I hate to toss them? But I can’t imagine they should be put in compost - wouldn’t that contaminate the compost? And if I cooked them up and fed to chickens, wouldn’t that be prolonging the withdrawal? Not to mention exposing the other girls to the antibiotics?
What do you do with the eggs laid...
I need some info on how to get antibiotics to have on hand for my poultry. What type do I get? What can I get without a prescription (no poultry vet here!)?
This is what my local feed store has available (image below). I think only one is labeled for poultry but requires a prescription (which...
I got this antibiotic from tractor supply it had alot of reviews about people using it on their dogs, cats, chickens, goats but the label says for cattle, swine. I already bought it due to everyone's reviews and was wondering if anyone on here has advise on whether I can use it on my duck which...

Hello,
Our chicken has been struggling to breathe for the past 6 days, and due to the Avian Flu going around the Pacific Northwest, no vet will see any bird exhibiting respiratory issues despite calling multiple centers all across the state. Since we really don't have anywhere to go, I figured...
Hey all,
I've got a 2 week old African x Chinese gosling that had a yolk sac that wasn't completely absorbed when hatched. I took it to our avian vet today and was told there's an infection brewing. So vet said to do 5 days of oral Clavamox .50 cc 2 times a day. I attempted to give the 1st dose...
Hello,
New member here! Seeking advice on treating upper respiratory infection on my juvenile chickens. I have tried the Tylan 50 injection and learned that I am not so good at it. It leaks right back out of the infection site. Is there anything else I can give them for treatment? I just bought...
We had a hen with bumblefoot on both feet. One had a big "corn kernal" removed by cutting the foot open. The other had it removed with some tweezers and less surgery. We soaked in Epsom salts before and after the surgeries. She no longer has any puss or infection coming out of the foot, even...
Has anyone ever used an online poultry veterinarian for their geese or ducks?
How was your experience with them, cost, and were you able to get a prescription from them for an antibiotic?
I have a goose with a few bumblefoot lumps because he is a dunderhead and was trying to fight with some...

Thank you to all contributors that give so much to this forum. It’s so helpful for those of us trying to help our little chicken farms.
I have a girl that definitely had an impaction about a month ago. Got that cleared. She seemed like she bounced back but I wasn’t certain if she had sour crop...
The attached picture is the medicine I got my girls. So I’m trying to figure out how much to give them. The bottle says 10mgs/kg body weight so I figured that means 20mgs per hen.( cause each hen weights about 5lbs and that converted to mgs is 2kgs per hen. ) so I’m confused because the syringe...
So, I'm treating two quarantined egg-laying hens with antibiotics in their water for three days for a respiratory infection. As per the antibiotics, we are not to eat their eggs until after 6 days of discontinuing the antibiotics. Can I feed these eggs back to the chickens or should I discard...
Hello everyone!
I have a less than a year old female turkey, weights less than 40 lbs that had what I believe a sinus infection, face and eyelids were inflamed and she hid on the kennel on the dark and barely responsive to noises. Gave her 2 injectable 2.5cc doses of LA 200 on her breast and...
I took my duck Midge to the vet and x-rays showed she had a broken foot and infection. We just finished 2 weeks of antibiotics and pain meds. The bottle for the antibiotics say to not eat eggs for 90 days. I do not plan on eating these eggs. I do feel horrible "wasting" them. I was thinking of...
We've got a young (about 14 weeks old, not laying yet) female runner duck who is very lethargic (hiding, standing away from the flock, standing hunched up, not walking around with everyone, not foraging), shaking like she's cold (outside temp is 64 and headed towards 82), and refusing food and...
Hey everyone. So, I dont often hear about antibiotics given to a chicken to treat bumblefoot. I saw a few threads here about it but none seemed to end in a resolution about whether it worked or not. I think I've seen one or two people in other threads say they tried it but it didn't work too...

I have heard many different opinions on whether to use or not use Baytril 2.5% or Baytril 10% to help cure a recurring and swollen bumblefoot.
Question 1: Is Baytril SAFE for hens and, after a 2 week egg dumping/withdrawal period, can I eat the eggs from my treated hens?
Question 2: If I...
