    Hi from Canada

    Hi everyone, Im from Canada and currently in the process of building my first coop. This forum is really informative and helpful. I’m insulating the coop because winters up here get really cold and will be making an automatic door using an actuator. Here’s some pictures of my progress so far;

    The Chick Inn

    Design Since my wife and I moved into our fixer home we knew we wanted chickens but building a chicken coop ended up a ways down the initial priority list of projects. As far as a coop design, I had a general idea of what I wanted out of a coop but it wasn’t until I found BackYardChickens.com...

    Horizontal pop door for chickens

    Our chicken coop has a horizontal pop door to the run for the chickens. Problem is I have to go inside the run and open their door to let them out to the run in the mornings. Is there an automatic chicken door that works horizontally vs. Vertically? I've been looking but having problems...

    Hello from a girl in the Bay Area, CA thinking about chicken projects :)

    Hi Backyard Chicken people -- finally joining the flock! This is my second time raising chickens after a long hiatus. My first chickens, acquired at age 10, were a pair of roosters named Blackie and Cupcake (gifted from a classmate who was convinced at the time that Blackie was a boy and...

    Getting Chickens into Coop at night

    I have 5 hens, one Cornish X and 4 future egg layers about 7 weeks old. I splurged on an automatic door for my coop and overall it is great. However, it is not working 100%. When first moved into the coop, I kept them there for 3.5 days. At the end of the first free day, I shooed them in the...

    Using an automatic door opener with geese and ducks

    I have chickens, ducks and geese and they are all housed together in an enclosed run at night. I would really like to get an automatic door opener but am not sure if the geese and ducks would go into the run by themselves at night. Every night when I go out to put them away the ducks and geese...

    Just installed Pullet-Shut auto solar door on the guinea coop!

    Hi all, thought you might be interested in the automatic door I just installed on the guinea's coop. After some research, I decided this would be the best option for my setup and so far, so good. The door and materials are REALLY well made. Last night the door shut right around 9pm, and I'm...

    Live Brooder Cam of baby chicks

    We hatched out four Self Blue Old English Game bantams one week ago. And took them out of the plastic tub because it was hard to clean. So I made a new brooder for my little chicks to hopefully help with the poo cleanup! Here is a live web cam on Youtube if you want to see them...

    Automatic Swing Door Opener

    I started feeling bad that we have not been getting up as early now that it is summer break and our son is not going to school. I had found plenty of plans for horizontal or vertical sliding doors, but not much for swing doors. Luckily (sort of) I had a bout of insomnia that led to scavenging...

    Automatic coop door danger?

    Last night I found one of my girls dead in the run. There were feathers everywhere around the walk up and the automatic door area. The door was open (should have been closed) . The read out on the door said it was jammed. Has anyone heard of the door killing a chicken? I can't find any other reason.
