Hi everyone,
Im from Canada and currently in the process of building my first coop.
This forum is really informative and helpful. I’m insulating the coop because winters up here get really cold and will be making an automatic door using an actuator.

Here’s some pictures of my progress so far;

Hello, @Joecarbs and :welcome So glad you joined us! That looks like a nice coop that you are building, I'm sure your chickens will be very comfortable :thumbsup Feel free to ask us any questions you may have, we will be more than willing to help you

P.S make sure that your coop has plenty of Ventilation this is very important. Your coop should have at least 1 sqft of ventilation per bird. Here is a good article explaining chicken coop ventilation.

Welcome to BYC. You may also want to check out "Canadians, check in here." The thread for Canada. The BYCERS there could tell you what breeds handle the climate best, and what type of coop is necessary. Actually chickens can handle cold much better than heat.

G’Day from down under Joecarbs :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

This is a link to the Canadian Thread Diva mentioned.

If you include your general location on your profile, this will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. There are many great topics for those starting out but you might be interested in these three in particular:
Topic of the Week - Getting Started, Keeping Chickens
Topic of the Week - Keeping the Flock Safe from Predators
Topic of the week - Winter chicken keeping

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!
