Hello BYC, thought I'd finally drop in and say "hello".
1. Yes, I'm new to raising chickens (got our first flock members in March of 2022), but old to raising chickens since my family & I did when I was a kid like 20 years ago.
2. We (husband & I) have 20 chickens right now. 2 roosters & 18...

Hi all-
My black australourp has a ton of bumps/bites on his comb/wattles. I thought it could be mosquito bites being that I live on a bayou, but if that were the case why don’t any of my other hens & Roos in the flock have them?
Is this something to be concerned with or is it just mosquitoes...
A lot of people were hating on other breeders that cross their chickens with other breed. Here is my opinion:
As long as you are treating your chickens right (by providing their basic necessities) and breeding to create chickens with distinct characteristics like for more meat, eggs, color...
Hello all, Well my girls (13 weeks old today) are finally out of the brooder and into their fancy new coop. I waited this long because the outside temperature have been well over 105 degrees this last month and I felt like that was just way to hot to have them outside even with misters and...
Hi everyone!
I have a lovely Black Australorp rooster that came with an order of pullets and I need to find a home for him. He is 10 weeks old, friendly, quiet, and takes good care of the girls he was raised with. I had a backup option when I purchased them in case I received a roo but they...
Breed ID help! I recently got my hands on a Black Jersey Giant Roo. Was told from previous owner that he is almost a year old. I’d say in the 8-9 pound range and around 17-20” tall. Spurs just now seem to be growing, only around 1” long Now I know some of the main qualifications for BJG but what...
Hi,
I do have a cockerel, possibly 8 or 9 weeks old now that was rescued in the mid of April and I thought I would ask the community help me guess or tell what kind of a breed he is. He is out growing every chicks in the my young flock. I am thinking between three different breeds, Jersey...
Long story short (if interested, read more here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/black-giant-or-black-australorp-and-pullets-or-cockerels.1580112/)
I have 4 or 5 black australorp cockerels for sale.
$15 each or will make a deal if you take more than one.
All are very friendly and all...
Hello folks, can you help me confirm their genders. Although I feel that they are both males, it is nice to have others' opinion. They are both less than 1 month, rhode island red and black australorp.
Hi, these two chicks are 3.5 weeks old and out of 10 chicks they have the biggest combs already. Just wondering your thoughts on gender! Thanks you! I’ll be happy either way!
Hi, hope this is right thread area. Was doing a search and didn't come up with much, other than chickens can have different eye colors. And that this particular one may not be SOP. But... Is it just a funky eye color, or is it something else? It isn't the light as his eyes are always this color...
Hello! First, thank you BYC family for all the assistance in helping us get our chicks outside comfortablely and sooner lol
Second, I know all these photos are not quite to standard and will try again in a week when they are 6 weeks--they were super excited to be outside lol - moved out today...
If you were on my shoes, what is your next move in chicken crossbreeding?
I just want to know if you have the same flock as mine, what will be your next move next breeding season? Comment your ideas, I would love to read your suggestions!
My target traits for the lineage that I am developing...
Hi there,
My chicks are six weeks old and finally out of my house! 🎉 They're feathering out and starting to look like real chickens instead of half-baked muppets.
Some of them are starting to develop combs and wattles, and I'm a bit concerned about my SLWs in particular - is it normal for...
Ive been raising chickens for 5-7 years now and this year I've had a first. Not sure if I should be concerned or not. So I got four day old chicks from the farm store, mow two weeks old. 2 Black Australorps a Isa Brown and a silver laced wyandotte. The issue is one of the Australorps is...
We have 2 chickens that I was convinced were both pullets but now that they are 19 weeks old, one has started to act a bit roosterish and the other one looks somewhat roosterish.😩 I already have 2 Roos that were meant to be hens (I’m deciding who has to go right now) but now I’m afraid Bellatrix...
We just got chickens for the first time this year so I am a total novice. We bought a whole flock of hens and a rooster from someone who was moving and couldn't take the birds with them. Early in June we realized one our hens had made a nest in the grass and was sitting on 12 eggs! (We have 25...
