Hi, all!
Today I noticed my barred rock had a weird wart looking thing on her wattle. My husband and I set her down to get a phone to take a picture and within a few minutes the dark scab had already fallen or been pecked off. I attached a photo of what it looks like. We put some iodine on it...
Hi all,
This spring we hatched Wyandotte and Bresse eggs. We noticed a few weeks ago that the Bresse roosters ONLY (not the Bresse hens or any of the Wyandottes) were doing this strange head shake. Our experience with chickens is limited to Wyandottes, who have very compact combs, and since...
I am working on a breeding project and want to incorporate butterfly combs from Houdans into it. I've looked at a lot of places and found the US SOP of Houndans have a V-comb while other places' SOP explain Houdans have a butterfly comb. Where can I find someone selling any eggs or chicks from...
Neighbor posted this morning of lost, wandering chicken. Rushed over and it is now contained in my backyard away from my flock. Has been given electrolytes and chick food/grit. Also ate some birdseed while coaxing into carrier. Noticed black spots on comb. No one has responded to claim ownership...
So, I got some chicks from a friend and she would only tell me that they were a barnyard mix of blue/green and brown layers. I also purchased 2 Barred Rock pullets the same weekend. I have my guesses after watching them quite often and doing lots of research, but can someone tell me what kind of...
Is this a fungus on her comb or something else?
She is not laying (that I can tell) still eats, drinks, stays with pack. But does lay down more than others. On 18% pellets, use hydro-hen in water 2X per week, gave oyster shell 1x wk. last week thought she was egg bound, soaked her in warm...
My roosters have black spots on their combs, and now they have some white. They’ve been vaccinated. Could it be from mites? Or fungus? Some of the black spots will scratch off, but the roo did not like me messing with them. Any suggestions on doctoring, care, and prevention? Thanks, friends!
I can’t say for sure… but I think my roo may have ripped my girl’s comb. We currently have her separated and spraying vetericyn on it. We tried to do supervised time outside with the others and the other hens are fine around her, but my roo goes right to attack this spot, so we immediately...
hey guys! so i’m just looking for some input, outside of my own brainstorming. feel free to pm me if you don’t want to give away your secrets publicly. 😉
i’m preparing to start a project, creating my own breeds of colored eggers. shooting for all green shades, may mess around with blue but only...
My five year old White-cheeked black Spanish has a very large, floppy comb. When she was younger it got a scab on the side, and healed flopped over so it is permanently draped over her face. I have looked at dubbing but it seems to be only for much younger birds? She has a tendency to sit down...
Hey everyone. Need help again, as a couple of my girls have begun developing these black spots on their combs, one of them now has her eye swollen shut. I thought they were potentially peck marks as they went through a little phase of establishing order. But they seem to have gotten worse or be...
My 8 month old hen recently developed wierd black spots on her comb. Does anyone know what it is? It does remind me of when my rooster’s comb was all beaten up and had black scabs, but those were bigger and more in clumps.
The pictures are of both side.
My chickens have had scaly leg mite for years now. I have tried everything. I have tried ivermectin (it did not help them but made me very sick after it touched my skin), another med a vet gave me, I have tried the natural remedies which are my go-to’s like dipping feet in olive oil with orange...
I have an indoor/outdoor cockerel about 20-22 weeks old (guesstimate). He’s lively and very active. Last night, the back of his comb and the very tips of the top of the last few little spikes looked slightly purple and almost… deadening. I gave him water in case he was dehydrated and since I...
Swollen silkie comb. Help!
The black and white pic is 6/23.
9/1 pics are after being cleaned and applying neosporin.
Somewhere between 6/23 and 8/28 her comb has swelled up pretty big. What can I do? She's eating and drinking fine and acting normal.
Please help with any suggestions. I’m so worried. My Buff Orpington rooster is 14 weeks old and suddenly developed these black sore spots on his comb. He is extremely lethargic. I have him separated from the flock and have been treating his comb with antifungal and antibacterial creams. I have...
I have a silkie/buff Orpington rooster and his comb isn’t straight, the back of it is layed over the side of his head and over his left eye. I thought it was just the way rooster are, but I saw other roosters and they go straight back. Is this a problem?
Thank you
The chicks are getting bigger & bigger every day! I have one that I'm not too sure about. It's comb & wattles grew in with the other roosters, but now the hens are catching up to it! It has more of a rooster disposition, however, I've seen some of the hens actually g this way too! 😅
What do you...
