My 6+ year old Rooster survived a fox attack this morning. He has been in shock all day and is still gasping for breathe quite a bit. We've put him in a box under a heat lamp in a quiet, dark room to help with the shock. We've also given him a bit of water a few times as well.
Many tail...
We have a hen that has intermittent symptoms. It happened yesterday and then she was normal and happened again early this morning. She is a Momma hen. Chicks over a week old and healthy. The hen sticks her beak up towards the sky then looks like she is gasping for air while laying in the upright...
I have a young two week old chick who is gasping constantly with the occasional sneeze. I think the sneezing might be due to the oil I gave her thinking that maybe something was stuck in her throat. I'm not sure what else to do for her.
It won't let me post the video.
Does anyone know what's wrong with her? She's so lethargic and I don't think she's getting enough oxygen. Her chirps are scratchy and shrill when she does get knocked out of her gasping, dizzy state, usually only ever because she got scared or excited.
Some background info:
So, ever since I did a deep clean of my coop last fall, I have noticed the chickens in my big coop sneeze. Not everybody sneezes, but it seems like they are taking turns sneezing. I had a BSL hen that I wound up culling because her eyes and nostrils became bubbly. My coop...
She (or he) hatched yesterday morning, her air bubble in the egg was slightly irregular but she hatched on her own. She keeps flipping onto her back or will wake up from a nap gasping for air. It’s heartbreaking! There is no click when she breathes normally but when she’s gasping there’s the odd...
After always reading about other folks troubles, it’s finally my turn!
I’ve had many batches of chicks over the years and I’ve only rarely lost one when they’re small; I buy from a reputable hatchery, they all arrived seemingly healthy, I have 20 broilers and 6 poults in the brooder, they’re 6...
hello I have a silkie that is having trouble breathing. I can’t afford to take her to the vet until next week but I fear she won’t make it. I have read online and through friends tried different thing. I bought VetRX which work at first but then nothing. Second I bought oxine(ah) and put it as a...
Long story short after 3 years I got my silkie back from my friend. She not looking to well, she was fine the first week but now her breathing is off. If she’s take a few step she fall down flap wings gasp for air (in my many year owing birds, this is normally the sign they are going to die) but...
Hi everyone,

Hello All,
I found my Rhode Island Red gasping for air, making loud noises and laying on the ground, a few min after I picked her up, she seemed to be fine. I immediately separated her from the flock in fear of AIB. Its been two days (still quarantined) and she will not squawk or call out. When...
Helllooooo BYC'ers!
So, Dorothy my 1 year old Barred Rock with the respiratory issues is still hanging in there. If you remember I took her to doc who gave her a dose of antibiotics a month ago and he suspected it was pneumonia. Well, she still has the "cough" where she gasps for air. Other...
We have had our self blue Duccles for about a year. Last month we noticed one that was behaving abnormally. She tucked her head low between her shoulders, didn't eat as much as normal. Within a day or so she would stretch out her neck and open her mouth to gasp for air. We brought her in the...
I have a mama chicken who would laid 13 eggs and within the last couple days all of them have hatched. The pen we kept her in my Dad was supposed to make safe for the chicks by covering a hole that separates the top level from the bottom and take out the ladder however he did not do that before...
Hi my loves, Im back and a bit anxious.
Edit to add: After researching I did see that those symptoms are present in Gapeworms, but like I said, she is only kept indoors, alone, in a sterile brooder, so how would she have gotten gapeworms? It says they get it from infected feces of earthworms...
I came home yesterday to find one of my black sex-link hens soaking wet, staggering and gasping for air. It’s 30-degrees out, poor thing. It looked like she tried to get a drink of water and somehow fell in, she was about 10 feet from the water dish. Not sure how she could have managed it, she...
Hello everyone, I am desperately seeking help for my girls. I inquired at a few local vets offices and it seems the nearest Poultry vet is about 2 hours away from us. I have three hens in a coop and two in another. The two are new and I bought them from a flea market. They showed no signs of...

My Rhode Island Red, Ginger, is almost six months old, and for the past few days has been very low-energy. We went away for the weekend (had a family member tend to the birds), and when I came back, I noticed that she looks a little off... She's closing her eyes a lot, looks a bit pale, her...
