Hi everyone! Newbie here looking for a coop. I will be getting 3 bantam chickens, as allowed by law in my area, and so I dont need anything too big bc I worry about keeping it warm in winter. I just placed an order for Backyard all-cedar playhouse
It is 42 inches by 47 inches.
I need...
I finished upcycling a child's playhouse into a new coop and it only took one day!
Finished dimensions are 66"H x 73"W x 66"D with 16 linear feet of perches inside. It's tall enough for me (5'1") to stand up inside.
I found the playhouse for free on Facebook, brought it home, pressure washed...
First, an inventory:
I picked this up locally for $40, plus $30 delivery:
This is a 'Backyard Discovery' playhouse, made of cedar and some plastic bits. This not-mine picture below shows one that's a little less-loved:
The main difference being that the quasi-fake portico over the door...

This could be a very long post but I'll just give a quick overview of my chicken-keeping history. We got our first 4 in early '17 (how is that already 4 years ago?!):

Converted playhouse coop but can’t find any automatic door opener that will work with a door that swings instead of sliding. Also battery or solar preferably. Any recommendations? Thx
This is our first coop. In theory, the old playhouse would make a great coop. We covered all openings with hardware cloth. It has a solid roof. My problem is the flooring. It is wood plank just like the front deck. We live in Florida so once a day all summer we will have a brief monsoon. The...
Hey everyone :) I’ve finally finished putting together the duck’s playhouse - just a doorknob to add. I bought the playhouse from B&Q for £80 - originally £230 but it was weathered. So they delivered it, we scrubbed it down and washed it and once I borrowed a drill, read the instructions 1...
Bumble Bee is my 3 year old Barred Rock who has been the sole member of the flock for the last 2 years.
She gets along with the dogs and cats by letting them know she’s the boss. She rules the backyard! She is extremely loving with a huge personality and always wants our attention. So, our...
**pic heavy lol sorry**
I love pallets! They are awesome, you can do so much with them and they are like grown up Legos. The 1st pic is my most recent coop built entirely of pallets and scrap wood. The fence is tied together in a lot of places for ease of removing and reconfiguring. Im working...
Hello! I am a mother hen to 6 chickens right now. Last year was our first year in chicken ownership so we had to have a coop. We scoured the internet for free and cheap recycled materials to make a coop. We had a goal in mind of using recycled good and saving money.
We found a free kid's...
We acquired a Little Tykes Playhouse from our neighbors to convert to a chicken coop. It's a work in progress and our chicks can't wait to get out of their temporary home. We also need to thank Hen House Rocks for the inspiration! This project took us longer than we anticipated, but the...
I was going to sell my kids playhouse but then saw pictures of others who had used these as a hen house. Thus began the journey of owning city chickens!
I am a woman who only wants to know how to use a power drill, and hammer. So I needed to call on my dad (my husband wanted nothing to do...
