    Sexing Houdans

I have two mottled Houdan chicks and I’ve noticed that they’re developing differently. Still hoping they could both be girls but what do you think? Breeder says it could just be a difference in growth rates. She hasn’t been able to successfully sex these until about 4 or 5 weeks. Fuzz butt at...

    Silkie lover

I have recently got 4 silkies that I am adoring but worried that I have roosters. I wont be able to keep roosters where I am. Sexing seems to be so confusing, and all of mine have different features, but sadly Im starting to think at least 3 of the 4 are Roos. What do you think? They are about...

    Sex of these Chickens

Hi everyone, I have a bunch of chickens ranging from 8 weeks to about 16 weeks. Some are cross breeds so getting an accurate breed is nearly impossible, the others that we know are purebred. I’m just wondering what your opinions of the sex of these chickens are and breeds if you had to give...

Need help sexing pekins and khaki campbells

All 4 of these ducks are 6+ months old. We raised the pekins from ducklings, and the campbells were given to us at a couple months old with the understanding that they were a male and female pair. We assumed the pekins were both girls due to the lack of drake feathers on them and their voices...

5 weeks silver laced wyandottes - slow feathering indicates possibly roos to be?

So I have purchased 3 SLW, 3 barnevelder and 1 Australorp from a breeder. So far I am about 70% convinced that there are 2 female barnevelder, 1 male barnevelder and 1 male Australorp. But I am still baffled what the 3 silver laced wyandottes are. They are about 5 weeks when the following...

This is my chick, Noodle, Orpington mix hatched the second week of October. Not sure what it is. The comb says cockerel but the feathers seem rounded? I’m scratching my head with this one

    Gender confirmation

Hi! We have some young chickens but pretty sure we heard some crowing this morning. Now we are trying to figure out if we potentially have more than one rooster. These are the 3 (personality wise) we think could be cockerels. We are nearly certain the gray silkie is male. We’d love your...

    Is eggshell DNA testing viable?

This company, IQ bird testing, has been recommended to me. I noticed on there it has the option to test eggshells. That would be great to send them what I’ve got from the incubator right from the get go. But if it’s dried out and whatever other issues there may be with this validity— is it possible?

What DNA sex testing do you recommend?

Sexing 6-week old Silver Laced Wyandottes

Hi all, I'm a first time chicken mum to a brood of 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks. Two have now reached 6 weeks of age, and I'm starting to suspect I have one hen (Amelia in pics) and one roo (Greta in pics), however was wanting to get a second opinion among those vastly more experienced than...

Consistently hatching more males than females

I feel like I’m consistently hatching out more males than females. It seems each time I do a hatch I will get 60-70% males. I thought maybe it was just a one time thing but this is my 5th hatch and only 6 out of 18 were female. I had someone that was supposed to come pick up 7 chicks this...

Silkie Sexing… Is it too early to tell? 8-9 weeks

I’m guessing white is a pullet.. maybe… ugh idk.. and black is a cockerel. (just like my last two silkies). I do have a third that I’m 80% positive is a hen. ( I’ll take a pic later to see what you all think) What do you all think about these two though? They are about 8-9 weeks old. 🙏🙏🙏

    Sexing Button Quail ?

I have 4 button quail that are around 5-6 weeks old. When can you start telling the sex so i can separate them appropriately? I definitely don’t want the males to hurt or kill each other. Can they be sexed by color ? I know i have one white and one silver, but i’m not sure what the other two are...
