A Craigslist Mystery - Blue Sapphires? Sussex?

I bought three pullets from a local--a classic Craigslist deal that listed them as pullet hens. The seller said they're two blue sapphire Plymouth rocks and one silver laced sussex. They're around 6 weeks old. When comparing them to photos online, I'm not so sure. What do y'all think? One of the...

We know who layed the egg!

I did the finger test where you check how far the bones are from the cloaca and we concluded it was clover! Her egg was a cream colour. and a question: is egglaying regular straight away or does it take a while to become regular? Because she hasn’t laid since that first egg.

    It Happened!!

This Afternoon when I got home, I did my small errands around home. The 3 pullets were out and I came out to check on them. I go back inside for a few minutes and when I go back out again, there was an egg on my back doormat. me & mum were so excited! But our question is who laid it? a) Loona...

My Hybrid Pullets Aren’t Growing Combs

Okay so I’m a little bit worried why aren’t my hybrid’s comb’s growing? They are 6 months old and I’m worried about it. Is there a problem? Maybe a disease? It’s probably because of them being crossbred but I’m not sure. (same chickens as my last post, Loona and clover) clover is growing some...

    Speckled Sussex chick with wattles??

Hi all. I picked up two speckled Sussex pullets (hopefully!) from TSC but one has something on the left side of her face. Doesn’t seem to bother her and she eats and runs around just like the other 8 chicks in the indoor pen Any idea what this is and should I be concerned about it? I’m pretty...

Hello everyone, I have 6 Sussex Light chickens that are now 6,5 weeks old. It is my first time having chickens (and using an incubator). They've grown into big chickens already, never knew it would go so fast! I have seen on this forum that there are a lot of Sussex owners. Although I think...

    5.5 Week Speckled Sussex, Roo?

The large full tail feathers say hen, but the comb is starting to get pink so that tells me roo. It is also top of the pecking order (actually, the only chick I've seen throw a peck at another). Any thoughts from folks? It was supposedly vent sexed as a hen when hatched.

    Is this a roo?

This little chickie seems more bold than the rest. Jumps at me and pecks at me and chest bumps the other chicks. Won't run away when I reach for him/her (which is nice because my kids & I like to hold them). Is it too early to tell if a roo? It is one of 12 chicks of various breeds including 4...
