This time, when I got on Dezi, all I asked was for God to keep me safe and he found a loop-hole! I'm perfectly safe except for my elbow. And do you know why he threw me? Cows! We were walking down the road (bareback) and we got to a point and he just stopped and kept trying to turn around. i thought maybe it was my mom, who was a ways back behind us. She came up and started walking with us, but he was still doing it. Then we came you an open gate to a pasture with lots of grass in it. He wanted to go in there but i wouldn't let him. He acted like he could see some danger or something ahead of us. We didn't see anything. I made him go forward. I was starting to think he was just being bad, when we got to a point and he started trying to turn and backing up and getting really scared. My mom yelled at him and clapped her hands behind him like she does to the dogs when they are bad. This totally freaked him out because she was acting like she was gonna slap him, even though she wasn't. He started bucking and i held on for at least three good bucks before sliding off. I fell on my butt, but Dezi ran, ooh! was he pretty. His tail was up in the air like an Arabian and he was going FAST! He ran away down the road, then he turned around and ran back at us. I puled mom off the road and he swerved into our neighbors pasture, where he was running down the bull-run (a stretch of weedy land between properties). I walked up to him and he let me grab him. Right beside where he was standing there was a HUGE hole, if he had run into that he would have broken his leg for sure and would probably have had to be put down. We walked back down the road, and on the way back I got back on him. It was then that we realized it was the black cows in the pasture beside the road! Funny how horses are scared of black trash cans, black cows, black cars, but he's a black horse! Well, that morning our farrier had come to trim his hooves and she loaned us her bareback pad! It's great and I'm riding in the parade with it. I'm also getting dezi decked out with garland and bells maybe some ribbon. My mom is making me wear a blue santa hat. Well, everything worked out, so i'm happy!

Wow, that is a blessing! The Lord kept you and your horse safe. That's really exciting you will be able to ride in the parade! Hope you have a lot of fun!

Well, I looked it up and I don't see why it would cause your horse to go through a fence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_equine_encephalitis_virus There's really no telling why your horse did that, she could have gotten scared, it could have been caused by her being so old, I have no idea.

I'm so sorry.

My old horse got caught up in a long grazing lead once, he got his foot wrapped in it and he freaked and ripped the t-post out of the ground and dragged it wound until we found him. She might have been looking for grass on the other side and gotten a small piece of her caught, then panicking and further entangling herself. Like i said, it's hard to know what went wrong.

My mother is a vet, I can ask her tomorrow.
I am truly sorry for your loss...

.

So, I asked her about Eastern Equine Encephalitis....
She said it caused neurologic stuff....
So while it is possible that could've caused her to stumble into the fence, it is very unlikely.
And, if she had been that neurologic, she would have died anyways.

I am sorry. Most likely she was reaching through the fence for a bit of grass, got caught and panicked.

OK.

Well I rode Mighty Spritey.... she was super fresh and I really had to hold her and make her trot or canter slowly over some of the jumps, but the last few I did I didn't have to pull much and she softened right up, which was nice. Needed a refresher course on the 'dont rush jumps'. LOL. she loves doing that...

Then, I brought in my filly, Puzzle. Did some work with her, she is very calm and trusting. I will be doing all her lunge work this month, and getting on her in the summer.

I messed around with her, since I hadn't done much with her for awhile.
-Groomed her ( she loves it, and she starts nuzzling your back when you brush her)
-picked her feet- She was perfect, even though I hadnt done it for awhile. She picked them up right away, and didnt pull away or lean on me

- waved a saddle pad around- she stared at it but didnt spook
- put the saddle pad on and put a surcingle on and tightened it up pretty tight- she didnt even care

- put jumping boots on her and walked her around. She lifted her legs really high- she was like WHAT ARE THESE- pretty funny.
- Tried to teach her how to eat treats. She mouths them and nods her head but always drops them. LOL

So yeah

Puzzle sounds like a real cutey.

She is so adorable, and really really trusting, which will make her much funner to train. She is also a dumblood ( thats what I call warmbloods) so if she is a little ignorant about scary things thats fine too.
