IDK..I'd much rather have somebody in person, you know? It's just me. I'm not that terrible of a rider, but I'm definitely not a pro.Nowhere near it. lol But Dez has kinda burned out my confidence. :/
I'm still a few pages back, so I dunno if you've found your solution... Here's my 2 cents, though.
Selling him would not make you a bad person. If he's too much for you, there's no shame in admitting that. If you're worried about where he would be going, I suggest having a "Right of First Refusal" on him, so that the buyer would have to offer him back to you if they decide he's not for them. You would need to get this in LEGAL writing. A verbal Right of First Refusal holds no water whatsoever legally. It sounds to me as though you and this horse might just not be the right match, and there's nothing wrong with that. My sister's horse is a really easy-going quarter horse, but he and I just DO NOT meld, and I'm a trainer!
If this horse is burning your confidence, he's not right for you. That's ok.
Selling him to a good home and someone who knows exactly what they're getting into seems to me like it would be the best thing for both of you.
If you DO still want to keep trying, and you can afford it, I'd suggest using Clinton Anderson's techniques. You can find some episodes of his TV show (airs on RFDTV) online, and he has clinics all around the country, if you're in the US.
I hope you come to a decision you're happy with.
I'm so excited! Dazzler is progressing beautifully.
I went to see her yesterday, and she came to the gate to greet me. She still has some odd anxiety toward the catch itself (as in, I can be right within range of her, but she'll move away when I try to reach to pet her or take hold of her halter. I suspect she may have been mistreated before the rescue I got her from took her in).
The easiest way to get a hold of her is still a bucket of sweet feed, but I suspect I won't need to use it much longer if she continues to progress in this manner.
She's getting much better with having her feet handled, and gave all four hooves! She's still a little kicky about her back legs, but gentle persistence is paying off.
I'm happy to proclaim that Dazzler is becoming sassy! I was working on lead training, and she was trying to get back to the bucket of sweet feed.
A perfect training opportunity, in my mind.
I actually prefer a horse that's a bit pushy to a timid, flighty horse. It's easier to discipline a horse that's not going to panic at the slightest tap, so the fact that Dazz is becoming more willful makes my job with her much easier.
I think my favorite part of the day was when I was putting her back to pasture. After leading her around for a bit more pressure/release training, Dazzler was following me around without the lead on! She walked right at my shoulder, and stopped with me perfectly! She even ignored her pasturemate (Namir, a... very energetic 6 year old Arabian gelding (who I get to work with!)) when he decided he'd go blazing past us to try to steal her away from me!
I'm super pleased with her progress. I'm only sad that she's still too young for backing, but I can wait a couple years. I want my Dazzy to be healthy!
As for Namir... Oh boy. As usual, I can't resist the chance to work with a wild-eyed Arabian! At my old stable, the owner of the barn was a bit of an Arabian collector. XD She'd often get a new horse and, since I didn't think to charge anything and just wanted to play with the pretty horses, she often asked me to work with them. I had the time of my life in those days, and I fell in love with every horse I gentled. I still miss my favorites Tiki, Mahogany, and Viktor! Working with Namir is going to be a total blast from the past, and if he turns out to be a good match for me, I'm going to partial lease him.

Oooh I'd love to join! I don't own any horses, but I took English and Western lessons, until 4H took over.
I sometimes draw horses, yet the always turn out looking.... small jawed, tiny ears, ect.

Ooh! I love model horses. I've never been to a model horse show, mine aren't in good enough condition for that.

Yup, at my toy store they have banged up models... from 1989 and their still same old 50.00!!!!
