Can fish live in week old water? It seems it would get stale or something to me...

If they live in aquariums (and probably tubs) and there's a filter, you only have to do a smal water exchange every month. Or you could do it the easy way and just put one or two guppies in a fish bowl.

I think the fish bowl thing would be certainly more simple.
I could buy a couple... where from? I have no idea, and put them in a glass bowl from somewhere. We used to change the goldfish's bowl everyday. It got tiresome. Is that necessary?

It's actually a little more work, at least I think so. With aquariums the st up is tricky, but after that it's simple.
Fish stores usually have them. Goldfish are dirtier than guppies, so you'd probably have to change the guppies water less often.
Then again, if you want something simple and pretty, a male betta is also a good choice.

Yeah, true, changing the water could get difficult, I remember multiple incidents where Gertie and Mildred fell out into the sink

Goldfish ARE really dirty, aren't they? lol they eat their own .. droppings o.O
A betta... why a male one? I want lots of lil' baby fish! lol jk, I probably don't, but it would be nice for him to have some company.

Hehehe.
A lot of fish do that.
Because if you have two male bettas they'll fight (that's why they're sometimes called Siamese Fighting Fish), if you have a male and a female the male will overbreed the female and get agressive towards her. A single male is best unless you want to breed.

Alas, I must leave! Farewell, Felta.... *Fades away*
