Hello, and welcome to PK's Lyrical Dissonance, AKA In which I yell at inane lyrics! Today, we'll be doing some song by some girl, I mean Fifteen by Taylor Swift.
I've never been a fan of her. Country just isn't my thing, plus she just looks... weird. Not to mention she can't reference Romeo and Juliet right. Spoilers, Taylor: THEY DIE. THE END. Your happy love song doesn't sound so happy now, huh? HUH? Ahaha!
Anyway, let's dissect this wheat-mess!
"You take a deep breath and you walk through the doors, it's the morning of your very first day."
Well... Okay. Not a bad way to start of a song, plus it opens up new possibilities for what's going to happen! Is she/you/person walking into a club? Church? New Job?
"You say hi to your friends you ain't seen in a while, try and stay out of everybody's way."
...okay. High school. Not a problem. But Taylor, 'aint' isn't a word, and I don't care if this is country pop.
"It's your freshman year and you're gonna be here for the next four years in this town."
Wait... Fifteen year olds are just entering high school? ...What. Maybe I'm just spoiled by homeschooling. Either way, I guess that explains everything, though! Oh, and what about moving? That happens, my dear.
"Hoping one of those senior boys will wink at you and say 'You know I haven't seen you around before.'"
Hang on. If fifteen year olds are in their freshman year, then let me think... Sophomore, Junior, Sen- TAYLOR!!
"'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you, you're gonna believe them."
Taylor, let me introduce you to a large group of people! They are often called cynics and depression sufferers.
"And when you're fifteen, feeling like there's nothing to figure out."
AHAHA. You're so funny, Taylor~!
