Ben and the she-wolf leapt forwards, snarling on either side of Crane.

The he-wolf braced himself for a world of pain with gritted teeth, and, having curled up into a fetal position with his paws on his head before reaching the rock, it reduced the impact only slightly, but at least protected his head somewhat. He staggered to his paws again and shook his head to clear the motion blur from his vision.

Bounding after Jake once again, he snapped down on Jake's throat and wildly shook his head with the he-wolf's flesh in his mouth.

Jake yelped and lashed out at the he-wolf's chest with his claws, leaving deep, jagged gashes behind. He shook his head violently, trying to dislodge the he-wolf's bite.
