There was definitely something wrong here, something she was missing. If the eagle had wanted her for chickfeed, she would have been dead and down the chicks' gullets by now. The fact that neither group were making aggressive actions further showed her that there was more here than met the eye.

Quickly, she waved her wings at Midnightgem and the owl. "Wait a minute, don't hurt them!" Cautiously, she approached the chicks, though not close enough to be snatched if they suddenly changed their minds about being hungry.
