This is so good to know. I would have had no idea.@LaFleche mentioned her poop. I seem to have missed the photo if it's posted. If you see any dead worms in her poop, she is probably suffering shock from heavy worm load.
Here are the photos^ they are in the spoilers.
Thankfully this past week I have been practicing properly syringe feeding the hens! I believe I am able to do it without getting anything in their lungs by feeding it on their right side of the hole. My mom is mixing up the molasses right now. Thank you so so much. You helped my sister and I so much with our last hen and I am so grateful to you. What the worming med does is to sedate the worms in the intestines, then they die and are usually absorbed into the intestines, but they may be clogging her now. You did the right thing by giving her sugar water and electrolytes in the beginning. Keep that up. It's keeping her from dying of shock.
Her crop not emptying points to possible obstruction of dead worms in the intestinal tract rather than a stuck egg. I would give her a molasses flush. This is gentle and should help.
Mix one teaspoon molasses in one-cup warm water. Give it as her sole water until she drinks it all or better, tube it into her crop. Are you prepared to tube a chicken? The solution could also be syringed into her isf she can't drink on her own. This is how to do it without aspirating her. View attachment 3858877
