She laid her first egg on December 30th, 2023 at 5 and a half months old. She was the earliest to lay. She laid an egg almost every day. She went broody about a week before she went into shock (This is her second time being broody. The first was a month before.) I am not certain the last time she laid an egg because of the back-to-back broodiness followed by the week of her doing so poor. I thought she had started up laying in between broody periods though. None of my hens have ever been so red before, so I got a bit nervous that something might be wrong. She's about as red as the rooster if not more red right now.Hey, guys! Quick question: Sadie has had this really red comb the past two days. I've never had a hen with such a red comb and wattles before. The weather has been in the 90s the past couple days. Would hot weather maybe affect her comb color? Is this normal? The photo doesn't even quite show how red it is.

I think she’s fine, but others can chime in.She laid her first egg on December 30th, 2023 at 5 and a half months old. She was the earliest to lay. She laid an egg almost every day. Thanks! That helps me not worry as much!I think she’s fine, but others can chime in.
Thanks so much! That helps to know! Some of my hens have pure hot red combs all the time. After it rained yesterday they turned even more red due to the moist air.
I don't think there is anything to worry about with your hen![]()
I hope that everything turns out okI have an 11 month old Buff Orpington hen named Maisie. I went out about an hour and a half ago to the run and saw her falling asleep while standing. I quickly grabbed her and brought her in and gave her two Calcium Citrate+D3 pills (630mg total) just in case she may be egg bound. I also gave her 2cc of sugar water (1tsp to 1cup warm water with a pinch of salt and baking soda) about 30 minutes ago. She is walking around right now inside and is very excited to eat some mealworms, but then she suddenly falls asleep and drops her tail occasionally then wakes back up again. I just finished yesterday her 5th day of dewormer, along with the rest of the flock (11 chickens in all) using Safe Guard Fenbendazole (.25 ml per 1lb). Could she be feeling poor from the dewormer? Could she be egg bound? Is she sick with something? Or is she just really sleepy?
This is my favorite hen! She is so sweet and just hopped on my lap for a hug. Any help would be really really appreciated!
Here are videos of her:
Edit/Update (~30 minutes later):
She is currently perching on my arm, asleep, with her tail very drooped. I'm really scared. This is not normal for her at all.

Edit/Update (~1 hour 15minutes later):
She's not doing good. Super sleepy, tail very drooped, even more.I believe she is egg bound??She's barely moving at all and is standing/laying still constantly. Won't move out of this position (except for the occasional preening for just a moment):View attachment 3858602
Edit/Update (~22hours later):
We have determined she likely has a blockage of worms. At least two other hens are showing similar symptoms.
Thankfully, all the chickens are doing great! Sadie and Maisie, the two that were the worst, have gained all their weight back and then some, are laying eggs, combs are a healthy color, and they beg for hugs and cuddles all the time! Elsie and Alek bounced back the quickest and are doing great as well. Thank you for checking on them!I hope that everything turns out ok![]()
