Update for 6/14/24 ~
Sadie got to go back outside today! She's doing so much better. I've always thought that she's a fine looking chicken. I loved getting to see my beautiful girl run full speed to the edge of the aviary when she heard my voice today.
Maisie is still not 100%. Her comb is very pale. Sometimes the color will come back for a bit, but it has stayed pretty pale.
She hasn't eaten or drank much (a couple small bites of braunschweiger, half a strawberry with sugar, a handful of mealworms, some white clover, two ants, and a tiny amount of regular feed). She has lost 8 oz in weight since the deworming process began. She doesn't have much of an appetite and isn't eating enough to sustain herself. We prepared a mixture for the syringe and tube fed her this evening. Here is roughly what we used (We aren't trying to recommend others use this particular solution. We are new chickens keepers trying to do the best we can based on the advice of other people, and what we currently have on hand in our house.):
- 1/4 tsp. Sugar
- 1 Very Small Pinch Himalayan Pink Salt
- 1 Very Small Pinch Baking Soda
- 3 cc Poultry Cell
- 1/8 tsp. Brewers Yeast
- 400 IU Vitamin E capsule
- 1 Very Small Pinch of Lactobacillus & Electrolytes
- 1 & 1/2 tsp. Homemade Milk Kefir
- 1/8 - 1/4 tsp. Chicken Probiotics
- less than 1/8 tsp. Molasses
- A Little Less Than 1/4 Cup Water
We used a little less than 1/2 of this mixture in the syringe -- 35 ml for this evening & 30 ml for next morning. We will give her the other half tomorrow morning.
She is still moving around and happy. She loves scratching around outside. She still wants hugs. But we are concerned about her food intake.
