Hawk panted heavily as her feet clawed wildly, struggling for purchase on the avalanche of gravel. Every time she planted a foot in the sea of pebbles it would be swept away.
She paused then and let the stones drag her back down to the bottom and just to the edge of the chilly water.
If only she hadn't followed that stupid beast, but who would thought that even a deer would fling itself into raging whitewater? she snorted to herself, attempting to keep her semi-calm state of mind.
Not her, but clearly, here she stood miles down stream after taking one of the wildest rides of the terrain. No idea where she was, wet, cold and trapped. Her only other option was to swim the river with no idea when next there would be a place to climb out, or if the water would just run till she tired and drowned.
She thought about screaming, yelling and cursing like a mad dog in an attempt to draw attention to herself, but held off. This was not her territory, the last thing she needed was a rival pack or bear coming over to investigate.
She resigned then to the wet route.
