Hello BYC! I was giving the chickens their food this morning and found this monstrosity on top of the feed bin. Does anyone have a clue about what this is?
I have 18 chickens and 3 guineas in the coop,
They are fed all-flock and have oyster shells always available.
We just drastically expanded their run so maybe the egg was caused by stress from the building? I checked on all of the girls and nobody was acting out of the ordinary.
Any ideas anyone?

It is a soft shelled egg. Probably popped when it got pushed out or was pecked at. Even though you have oyster shell available, does not mean the hens will always eat it. This happens when one of the hens does not have enough calcium in her diet. You might want to check all you hens vents for a yolk smear or any remnants of the soft egg shell. You can fix the problem by giving all your ladies some plain yogurt.
