One of our chicken’s head got crushed in a closing gate. She was bleeding around her eye so we cleaned the area. She’s very pale, lethargic, and when we opened the eye there appeared to be blood behind the eye. We really need help - asap.

I am very sorry about your hen. I would get her into a calm and quiet dim area for separation. Make sure it is warm enough, not too warm, and not cold. Irrigate her eye with some saline or eye drops, and then apply some plain Neosporin or Terramycin into the eye. She may have a brain bleed that she could die from, but I hope not. Let her sleep. If she seems awake and alert offer some water with a tsp of sugar to each cup up to her beak. Let us know how she is in a little while.

In the first picture the eye has a hemorrhage inside. That could be the extent of her injury, but if she is unconscious or deep asleep as she looks in the second picture, it may be a brain bleed. Is the gate secured, so that no others get injured?
The gate is secured now - my sister forgot to check behind her when she closed it after taking care of them and it slammed on angelica.

We irrigated it and I’ll put some neosporin on it. We’ll let her rest and update you all in a bit.

Thanks for the help!

@Lemon-Drop how is Angelica today?
Hello! This is @Lemon-Drop’s twin with an update.

Angelica began to start moving and seemed left lethargic near the start of yesterday evening, and began taking some food and water, although her face (especially the side with the eye with the hemorrhage) was pretty swollen. This morning, she continued to seem alert, and the swelling in her face had gone down significantly. She has also started to open her injured eye, however, we can still see some blood behind it, and small streak of blood has moved into the whites. Thank you so much for all of your help, and we truly appreciate your insight!

As an aside…I hope everyone is doing well! I know it’s been quite some time since I was on BYC!
