☻Kiki's big mistake

Oh no!!! I'm rooting for you little duckling,!!!
Thank you!
O gosh I hope it makes it.
It's time for me to go check on him again.
:fl
Be back in a few minutes with a new video.

Cheer up girl, there’s a good chance he’ll make it. And if he doesn’t, you gave him an opportunity at life that he never had before. Good lesson for us all, I know I would’ve done the same as you.

Such doom and gloom but no ones mentioning that IT’S ALIVE!!
He could be being eaten with toast (is that how they eat balut?) by somebody right now!

Disclaimer: I don't know anything about incubating eggs.
That said; With the egg open, wouldn't the humidity need to be higher to keep the membrane moist and pliable? Maybe a damp/wet cloth nearby.
It's probably a good idea for me to bump the humidity up right about now. Thanks!

I am going to keep applying coconut oil on the membrane when I see it start to dry out.
It's been a few hours and it hasn't started to dry yet.

She said in an earlier post that she is using coconut oil to keep the membrane moist!

Just cross posting:

Coating it in coconut is good, you're gonna want to keep applying that.

Bad news is, that's the yolk and a foot you're seeing. So it's backwards in the egg. Good news is that even when backwards like that they often can hatch on their own. It should be able to at least pip at the wrong end when it needs to. Bad news again, with the air cell open it will have no leverage to push and turn to zip, so it will probably need help when it does need to hatch due to this. Good news again, you can clearly see the yolk here, so it's gonna be really easy to see when it is ready.

In case it can't get the leverage to pip when it needs to, keep an eye on the rest of the shell - you might see a small bruise appear. If you do, that means it tried to pip and couldn't. So if you see that, you have to remove the shell over the bruise.

I just walked someone else through doing this with a Call duckling, and the duckling made it and did fine.
