♥ ♥ ♥ Show Off Your Call Ducks ♥ ♥ ♥

I love this "show off your dux call" thread!

BTW you peoples are getting to me..I was looking at the nearly empty Guinea Gulag and thinking, "Judy, could put call dux in there"

I immediately went in and swallowed a bottle of syrup of Ipecac to get rid of what ever was affecting my thinking...
Yay!!!! Saint Judy gets to get some DUCKIES!!!!

I don't have geese, but my neighbour and several friends did. They get in all the water buckets and poop everywhere. :sick Not sure what breeds. Some were white and some were grey and white.

I've thought of getting some, but I don't feel like dealing with their nasty temper. There's probably a trick for raising them nice but I don't know it, lol.

Does your friend have a pool or pools for them to swim in? She's gotta have really big water buckets if the geese can actually get in them to poop in them; I raise the smallest breed of domestic goose and even then they are the biggest birds I own and couldn't get into my buckets like that. I couldn't imagine they would even want to try squeezing in a bucket if they had access to a pool to swim in instead.

Mine are all sweethearts. I picked a docile breed on purpose, and even the ganders are well-tempered and have never been aggressive, not even in breeding season. There's not really a trick to raising them that I know of, I raise them like all my other birds. Probably handle them a bit more as goslings than the other species because they are so, so sweet and smart, and they will talk back to you if you talk to them and love to cuddle. They're probably my favorite birds.

Mine to, even though my Embden gander can be a real stinker during breeding season. I do realize it's part of his protective state he is in during that time. He is almost 11 yrs old and I can't imagine life with out him or his mate.

I will say anyone interested in geese should do their homework and pick geese that have the temperament they like because That would probably keep a lot more domestic geese off public ponds and rivers.

Sorry, should have clarified. It's not the water they're pooping in, just that they're so big that they turn the walkways to :sick in short order.

My geese are actually very polite with water compared to ducks, lol. Even as goslings they are SO much better with water than ducklings, even Call ducklings. I've never had goslings soak the brooder like ducks do. I've actually heard that from other goose keepers too. Maybe yours didn't get the memo; you better tell them to shape up :gig

I actually didn't know you had geese, what breed do you raise? I raise tufted romans. You can actually see Zilla there in that picture of the ducks I posted. He's sitting by the waterer with them, not making a mess while all the ducks do their best to splash all the water out. Ducks
My geese are much better with water also than the sloppy ducks are. My gander once in a while especially if there isn't swimming water will dunk his head a lot but they don't stand at the buckets and see how fast they can splash all the water out.

I have had geese,,,I want to thank you two for returning me to sanity...No Call dux if they are worse than geese!

Thanks

The Calls aren't really that bad; my white pair that I bought at a show in September are currently living in my workshop with a pig dish that is big enough for them to swim in and while they make some mess, it's nothing compared to a flock of the big guys. They're still pretty splashy with their water, it's just that they aren't big enough to make big messes.
