Today we just got new baby chicks, they were in a mixed breed bucket so we have no clue what the chipmunk pattern ones are. Are they americaunas? Are they speckled Sussex (that is what we are hoping for). Any tips will help! We know that the white and grey ones are most likely amerucauna. Thank you!

Easter Eggers and Speckled Sussex are only two breeds with those similar type of markings.. There are also Welsumer, bielefelder, Welbar, brown leghorn, olive egger, etc.

As stated by the first poster, may be too early to tell. Sometimes comb type, skin color, lobe color, bearded or not, clean or feathered shanks and # of toes, etc will give clues.. many are still hard to discern just yet.. or the same exact as other possible breeds.

Congrats on your babies!

k you! We have had Easter eggers lots of times before and they look similar to ones we have had before. We have close to 45 chickens now! Thank you so much for the help, we are ordering speckled Sussex soon, we are so excited to add them to our flock again!

My speckled Sussex’s have thicker lines on their back and are more dark shades of brown, it looks kinda like and off colored Sussex
