I respectfully disagree and support your decision. Define the problem and the desired solutions.I know it’s not their fault and I do feel bad for them and that is why in the future I will not support the franken-chicken industry. Kinda like how some people feel about certain dog breeds, pugs as an example. I fed 2x a day and I put the food far away so they had to move. We also were going to see if we could breed our own meat birds. We have a few nice sized, broad cockerels out of a barnyard mix that we were going to experiment with. Time isn’t an issue for us, healthy birds are what we are aiming for. I was just saying to the SO that we should do a comparative nutrient analysis between CX and a normal chicken. Like a real scientific experiment. I just don’t know who would test the meat. Perhaps we could pay a school?![]()
CX are efficient in feed and time to processing. There is a place for this solution. Husbandry can be adjusted to minimize the yuck.
I'm raising heritage broilers. Due to who-knows-what (my husbandry, the feed &/or weather), the broilers are below the advertised target weight at this time. Not complaining, I did something different to miss the target. Not the first time. Won't be the last.
It appears that I don't have broilers, just a yard full of healthy, happy, grass eating, running around and delicious chickens. No complaints as my goals were to see what would happen. Now I know.
