So, do ducklings really range in size like that? Are there really small and really large varieties? (I realize there are size differences with the adults)

Large range of sizes of ducks, depending on your use of them. Meat, eggs, fun!

Call ducks are super small bantam sized ducks
Mallards, runners, welsh harlequin are usually small
Swedish and Cayugas are medium sized
Pekins and Rouens are large

Speaking of how large the duckling looks, Kiki, I think the most amazing thing you will find is how fast it grows! They change overnight! Its unreal!

I'm only familiar with Mallards. Hmm....I will have to look into call ducks....
