➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

If we were to try and build a chicken coop that was, 4'w x 8'l x 8'h.... with nesting boxes on and accessed from the outside (on the back)... that would be big enough for 8 standard birds to just roost and sleep in right? Or maybe with a slight lean to type roof line. And have the front just basically 2 doors so they can be fully opened for cleaning purposes. It would be raised so their food and water would be hanging underneath for them. Am trying to come up with something super simple yet structurally sound, relatively cheap as well as secure and functional. Maybe have a total of 12 birds max at a time. Thoughts?

Yes, as long as you don't get winter.

Have you looked through any of the coop articles for ideas?

We do but it's not for very long. I figure I may have to do a little shoveling or something so they'll come out. I would add a covered run area later to negate that. This is just what we could possibly accomplish at this moment. Probably be able to do a covered part for them before winter. I do want them to not be "stuck inside".

I see you're in TN. That will be no problem, then. :thumbsup

I have looked and looked and googled and looked some more. My DH is not a carpenter. So it has to be a coop for dummies type thing. So knowing that plywood comes in 4'x8'... that's where I am going with. Less cutting, less fancy. Secure and functional. I have more of a chance of it getting done in a fast manner. And it would be mainly for sleeping. They free range all day long. But in TN, we do have winter and it will sometimes snow, which I've read chickens don't like. But a covered section that can be kept dry can come a little later when more funds become available. If that makes sense.

The magic eight ball says "outlook not so good".

Mine have funky neck feathers. But, appear to be egg layers. So, the magic eight ball is correct on the pullets!

The clearest picture I could get of the comb because the little crazy thing would not be still.
