Someone beat me to the answer...but to clarify why they can't be released. Some breeds have been too many generations away from wild and have lost their foraging instinct. Caged, fed pelleted feed and fresh water every day in shelters.
Put some plump roots in potting soil and sprout some. Set the tubers horizontal about one inch deep, put the pot in a semi sunny location and keep the soil moist. Mine sprouted on an east window sill.
We were in the Florida Keys a few years ago. At evening, a gecko calling for a mate was louder than the peacock on the beach.

My mother was a 6th grade Science teacher. Her classroom had live snakes, tarantulas and hamsters. Babysitting them at home in the summer was a trip in itself.
