I should mention that while I was at the store I sent a picture of my holding the egg in my hand to a friend. She questioned if I was sure it wasn't a goose egg because it look pretty big. So I went back to where the eggs where and took this picture.

Not until HOURS after I realized there was something "wrong" with the eggs did I notice the sign in the picture.

I thought you were joking when you first posted this. ... on some other thread?

The worker people at the store, all Vietnamese were looking at me funny, I think.
I wonder if they were wondering if I knew what I was buying.
I had no clue. I wish someone at the store would have said something to me.
Did you wonder if duck eggs usually sell for $1.25 each? :idunno

I. Am. Speechless.
IKR!

This not knowing stuff is for the birds.

Have you been turning them?
Good point!

I take it that you don't have a broody hen to finish the incubating, which may only be 1 to 2 weeks ...

A good while ago I got a balut from an international grocery. It was already boiled and refrigerated. It already had downy feathers and a soft bill.
:pop This is fascinating! :clap
That's what I was picturing in my mind - thinking what on earth does she think she can do with that...didn't realize they could still be viable.

What!?
Where is this project Bee did?
I remember it, glad to see you located it.

Tuned in this am to find 15 PAGES!!:duc
I'm all caught up.:)

Oh, Kiki...only you.
Sorry, laughed thru the first 6-7 pages.
But really, it's fascinating, kudos to you for the whole thing.
Who else could make fuzzy ducky babies out of live balut(balut sushi?).
(lemonade out of lemons)
I think your incubator setup is fine.
Not sure the heating pad worked in the end, I remember following that adventure.
Wonders if they keep the live balut warmed at all...how many they sell, who is there supplier, do they cook and package the ones they don't sell live...oh the questions!!

I thought it might be helpful since we have no idea how old they are.

Hope I didn't sound criticizing. I just meant for air cell size, that chart doesn't show very well. But for growth it does. So it was excellent for you to share it!

It's great!
It makes me think I might have Easter ducks.
Can I join the EHAL now?

:yesss:

When you go back over there, ask them what day the eggs are stopped incubating! Maybe they will know.
Honestly, they look too early for my understanding of people that eat them. But maybe not.

I think I am going to cave and buy a wafer thermostat.
I am going to try to hold out for a few more day though.

This constant checking is crazy.
I wondering if I need to move the operation into my room next to my bed?! (This has to sound nuts...I can not believe I am say this.)

So proud of you! You Rock!

I am incubating duck eggs too. Yours are growing nicely!
When day 27 comes, stop rotating the eggs, do not candle....I know it will be hard.
Some say stop moving them at internal pip, but the embryo needs to settle for hatching.
Unlike chick eggs, ducks can take up to two days to get out of their shell after external pip. The duckling will be vocal and then quiet for long periods of time.
This can be very distressful to us, but necessary for the baby to build strength to break out of the hard shell.
The reward is worth it!

Morning. I'm slept late! I'm going to cancel in a minute.

@aart @biophiliac @WVduckchick y'all mean when I go back to the store I have to ask them about these eggs. The don't speak English!!!. I'm not going to understand anything.

I'll try though. I'm guessing they open at 9. Sundays are big days for Vietnamese....they party after church so maybe I can spot a shopper who can translate for me.
