➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

lol The birds do it all the time... ;) :woot
All one needs is a container, heat source, humidity, monitors and lots of sleepless hours and checking temp and humidity to keep them growing till hatch... Some birds even use a mound of mulch to put their eggs in, to hatch them. Adjusting by adding or removing mulch.
So the set up works with creativity, determination, and lots of patience... And did I mention sleepless hours.. :D
Yes, SOME species of birds do it all the time. However, a minute percentage of avian species are level 1 precocial. Those are birds that can dump their eggs into piles of rotting vegetative matter just like crocodilians and the offspring can dig their way out and are immediately able to fly.. Poultry and waterfowl don't fit that classification. No North American birds possess this extreme level of precociality. Ducklings and most shorebirds are level 2 precocial. Chickens are level 3.
No one would expect an altricial species to be able to come back to life after partial incubation.

Hi there. :frow
I've been very busy, plus I spent a couple weeks with a bad sinus infection and cough that sucked the energy out of me.
Saturday was my chicken class at the community college which eats up most of the day. Then, Sunday, my wife ran over her dog and I spent the day at the emergency clinic.
How awful. How is the dog doing?

Oh my God...I'm not going to ever make it out of this parking lot. Is the puppers ok?
11 year old Pomeranian has a broken pelvis and a collapsed urethra. From the 24/7 emergency clinic he was taken to the veterinary specialty services center to see if he's a candidate for surgery since he also has an enlarged heart. We haven't heard anything since. They are so busy, they don't even answer the phone. The emergency clinic bill was $1,000. If he gets surgery it will add another $3,000 minimum. One side of the pelvis is crushed.
THANK GOD I didn't do it or she never would have forgiven me.

Sooooo, other than that, how was your week? Sheesh!
OK, other than caring for 8 flocks of chickens in the midst of 4 days of rain, needing to butcher 10 roosters, prepping to drive to Arkansas to bring back 5 bee hives and building trap nests. Those are the highlights of my lengthy to do list.
