➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

X2 on the hug @BantyChooks! I had a panic attack ONCE! Thought I was dying! Went to the Er and everything. My heart rate was through the roof and i felt like I couldn't breathe. When it was finally over it felt like that part of my life was a dream and I'd not really even been there. It was surreal. I have a friend that has panic attacks often and it gave me a new respect for her. It's the craziest scariest feeling.

off topic, but, it appears I have 2 broody hens again. Am thinking I might hatch again this year as I have at least 4 months before we get anything close to cold weather. Any comments? Am I nuts for considering this?

No! Hatch more! Why not! You're right. Babes will be plenty big enough to handle our winter by the time it gets here!

I used to wear flip flops all the time as a teenager and in my early 20's. Then I switched to Birks and I love them but they are pricey! Plus, I just have this horrible tendency to trash everything I own. Do you have any recommendations as to comfy flip flops? I have tried on about a million pairs, but they are all awful feeling. The pricey ones seem the most uncomfortable to me.
Fit Flops are good if you have problem feet and want flip flops but they run off size so you have to try them on, i don't remember if you have to go up a size or down a size. My feet are horrible, the only thing I've found that makes them happy are a shoe called MBT. Cured pain issues, Dr's, injections and custom orthotics couldn't cure.

Sorry r2elk, didn't mean any offense. Completely understand protecting your flock but idk, I guess I just have a different perspective or view? I really love animals (not saying that you don't) and am maybe a bit too much of a softie lol so I don't like killing unless absolutely necessary and would try to find non lethal methods first. Plus I don't evem own a gun and even if I did, shooting isn't allowed in town I don't think (we're too close to houses) so I'm forced to find non lethal methods. That said, we don't have a loose animal problem here. But I just think there's so many other options such as an air horn or rocks. And I think I would try to find the owner if it was a dog or take it to a shelter but I know not all areas have shelters. That said, I do know that it is the owner's responsibility to keep an animal contained and on their own property but I also know that sometimes accidents happen and a dog escapes or an indoor cat gets loose and things like that and I know that if it was my animal that got loose once and it was shot immediately I'd be devastated. That said, if it happens more than once, I think by the second or third time I may shoot or at least just take it straight to animal control and let them pay the fines.

As for spaying and neutering, I actually do agree with everyone and would pay for it myself but I guess I was just saying that because I didn't think Cypress would want to pay for it.
We live out in the country and none of the neighbors believe in confining their animals. We opted for paintball guns. Non-lethal but discouraging. I figure if my dogs got out (never do, knockwood) I would be ok with someone shooting them with a paintball to make them understand they are not welcome.

I had three in 1 day a week or so ago, but have been averaging one every 1-2 days. We’re really hoping this isn’t a fluke, but even a week’s break is a huge relief.

On that note, I just signed up for a class for this semester. :) Just another silly art class but that’s a huge step, we thought I’d be rotting at home for the next 4 months. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself but I’m super excited.

Congrats on the class, not silly at all. I hope the CBD oil continues to work for you. I've seen amazing things happen with it! :fl:fl

As a northerner I have to ask - what kind of cold weather can you possibly be concerned about? Aren't you in Louisiana? :lau
yes, Southern Louisiana. :lau:lau We did get 3 days where we had to break the ice on the top of the chickens water (3 in a row!!!!!) and my blood orange tree did not produce this year because of the "cold" winter.

Tes, do you mind if I ask what you have? It's ok if you don't want to share it with me even if, everyone else knows.
Oh I don’t mind, I just don’t want to come across as a sob story because I’m not.
I have “undiagnosed seizures,” it could be epilepsy but they’re abnormal (much more frequent than a typical epileptic’s seizures), and we have not found epilepsy patterns on an EEG yet. All we know is that it’s not a brain tumor.
That’s the gist of it. I also struggle with depression and a possible heart (or ovary, it’s complicated) condition, but I’ll keep it short lol.

Hey, you're a pigeon person, right? How are they in cold?

I got my first ones last Dec right before Christmas when temps were -14 to 0 F for 2 solid weeks. They were fine. They just poof up the feathers to increase the insulation factor.:D

I think the cold is better for them than excessive heat and humidity.
They would even bathe if temps get to around 32 F.

Great! Maybe I'll look into getting them after pheasants, then.
