➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I'm with you. My dogs have their own room with a doggie door to their own fenced yard. Dog beds in their room, they get couch access in the family room but no people bedroom access. I'm allergic to dogs but have always had at least 2!

This is exactly my setup except their beds are in the living room. No bedroom access here either except during bad weather I let them sleep on the floor bc Tallulah is so afraid of thunder. Thank goodness we don't have dog allergies.

The chicks my bantam hatched early were red sex links from a riw hen x RIR roo so they weren't bantams either. (Just for da record)
Oh, good to know. I have never actually had bantams, but I think I have read that they are more likely to hatch early?
Guess you and I just got lucky with some early birds :gig

I called the Leghorns flighty. But since this batch was handled SO much, it was our first batch of chickens, the broody fluffs up and growls. I lift her up. Take the white eggs. Check the fertile ones. She is content. No pecking. No attacking. All is good.

The Easter Eggers from the second batch weren't handled nearly as much and are not trusting at all. We are getting there. I still get the stink eye.

Thank you. Since you are just across the Sabine, weather is similar. I'll be doing my once a day checks on the eggs. See how many pop and when. Totally amazing.

Sounds like Batty doesn't want me to candle again. I'm good with that. Lockdown in T minus 2 hours...

I am nothing of an expert hatcher person or even knowledgeable. I have had very crappy success at this and I can tell you I had no idea I wasn't supposed to check the eggs after day 17 so i messed with mine like crazy. (Not counting the first hatch with the two chicks I mentioned earlier from my neighbor) I had 1 chick hatch from 11 eggs so DONT do what I did and mess with them. If banty says leave them alone, leave them alone! I know next time I will be sure to do that.

Mine as well. Glad to hear it from a pro!
Don't know about the pro part but I have raised thousands of pheasants through the years....if you haven't learned something along the way....well we'll just skip my thoughts on that. Oh, BTW I noticed one of the hens has 2 orange-ish color feathers on her back. May just have been lighting, Idk but she also has more facial skin around her eye, instead of feathers. Pay close attention to her as she might become the "bully" of the hens. I've had quite a few that were like her and turned out to be a real bully hen, always wanting to fight with other hens...either in the same pen or in the adjoining pen. FYI

I do love goats. I'll have some by next year. When I get them, I will FedEx a goat poop pie just for you.

We plan on getting goats next yr as well. I'm leaning towards Nigerian Dwarfs. I want to try my hand at milking them and making cheese, maybe soaps and whatnot. I've never milked an animal in my life so idk how that's going to work out. They may just end up as really cute and funny pets. Time will tell.
