➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I love it when you can tell people are trying to catch up to the thread but haven't got the daily crazy yet. I only wish I could see the look on their faces!:gig

This is me right now. Ya'll have me cracking up. Am on page 2313. I think I've been thru close to 100 pages so far and have so many more to go. I'll probably end up going to bed and finish catching up tomorrow LOL! :lau

So in broody news, the black hen I gave 4 eggs to on the 10th lost them. We think something got into the pen and spooked her off the nest and took the eggs.
Also, the watering system came on for the azalea bushes and they started clucking and peeping. Turned off the water and discovered another broody hen, one live chick, two dead chicks, and a bunch of eggs. Got a cage and moved her and baby. Two eggs were pipped; I put all the good eggs back under her. I think she has around 5 eggs and the one chick. Hoping she hatches them after being disturbed.

Don't know about the pro part but I have raised thousands of pheasants through the years....if you haven't learned something along the way....well we'll just skip my thoughts on that. Oh, BTW I noticed one of the hens has 2 orange-ish color feathers on her back. May just have been lighting, Idk but she also has more facial skin around her eye, instead of feathers. Pay close attention to her as she might become the "bully" of the hens. I've had quite a few that were like her and turned out to be a real bully hen, always wanting to fight with other hens...either in the same pen or in the adjoining pen. FYI
Thanks! That is the one that was throwing me off. Those orange feathers are there, not just lighting and she does have a little bit more orange on the face than the others. I plan on keeping a trio and releasing a pair (maybe she's the lucky lady). I will definitely keep an eye on her. Thanks again! Very much appreciated.

I can't stand dogs on any of my furniture. It's disgusting. They're dogs. They sleep on dog beds or the floor. I don't allow them in the kitchen and when they are in my house, they are laying in their spots. No playing indoors, no approaching the table for scraps.
Oh.. oh no.
I might have to leave team Conan.

My dog (specifically my old man golden) is my best friend. We have strict rules (no begging, period, and no barking or acting stupid for attention) but they are like family.
Generally my boy sleeps in his dog bed but I will sometimes help him onto the couch to snuggle. Our bed is usually a no-go, only because he’s a big boy and I married another big boy, but on bad nightmare/sleepwalking nights I’ve been told Triumph is the only thing that really helps.

People have dogs for different reasons, plus every dog is different. I grew up with outdoor only dogs (I used to sneak Andy through my bedroom window at night) but he usually slept right outside my window in the gravel. When he got older, he was allowed in the laundry room, on a dog bed only. He never did care for being inside.
I think Triumph sounds like a borderline service/legit companion animal. He means more to you than just a dog. My current dogs are just dogs. They aren't allowed to think that they are even remotely in charge. I know that definitely goes against the popular opinion here, but that's how I roll!

I can understand that. Yes, that stupid fluffy golden has gotten me through some rough stuff, he is much more than a dog to me.
More like a therapist that I pay with dog food.

On that note, sometimes I forget just how much untrained dogs suck. My in-laws have two weenie dogs and I was ready to kill them by the time we got done housesitting. They barked at everything just for the hell of it. Begged for our food constantly, and if you tell them to buzz off they just give you the stupidest, most idiotic dull-eyed look. One whistles/whimpers for attention when nobody is paying attention to him. The other wouldn’t stop growling at me to which hubby dismissed as “oh she’s just old!”
Uh uh. Triumph is old. Old is not a free pass to acting like an ass.
They hardly know their NAMES. And if they do (I’m honestly not sure) they’ve learned that they can just ignore you and walk away. Not even a turn of the head. I’m getting pissed just thinking about it—in that sense, I 100% agree. NO dog of mine will EVER think he or she is in charge.

I know they say that you’re always going to see the best in your own dog but seriously, it floors me how people can tolerate behavior like that. My goofballs might as well be a military trained bomb dogs in comparison.

This is why the golden reigns supreme. Can't beat their good natures!
Unfortunately, untrained dogs are pretty much a majority around here. It's awful. Most house dogs that I come across have zero boundaries and don't understand that they aren't in charge. Or people who get mini work breeds because they're cute, treat them like a chihuahua and then don't understand why they turn aggressive. I feel bad for them because it is not their fault, but that doesn't stop them from driving me nuts!
Then there are those people who get a dog to stick in their yard all day and ignore. Yeah, just let the poor thing sit out there barking and going completely crazy for it's whole life. Why bother having a dog?
I think I've gone into this before, but I have one bully breed and one dumb dumb. Dumb dumb is my dobie and he's the easiest dog ever. Completely obedient and submissive.
Pit mix is a nightmare dog. She gets zero freedom. None. She lives with rigid boundaries because she can't be trusted to make the correct decisions for herself. I love her but I look forward to never having a bully breed ever again.
There's my dog rant.

Well, I ended up with 4. Pretty terrible stats but I’ll keep trying.
There were about 16 infertile, 1 died sometime after zipping most of the way, a couple died before internal pip. The rest were somewhat developed at different stages and died for whatever reason.
