Look at shelter dogs, or volunteer at a shelter? That way you can practice your dog training skills while looking for the perfect dog for you. Mixed breeds are usually healthier too.

That's a good idea, thanks!

You have a dog.

Yeah, definitely worded that wrong lol meant like a second dog that I can train properly and take places with me and/or do a sport.

Also I am realizing that this might have sounded like I don't count Gator or don't love him anymore but I definitely still do and didn't forget about him. Although I do think he may be a little jealous that I walk Libby so much now (at least 3 days a week, sometimes 4 or 5 and occasional dog sitting) and smell like her when I come home.

In fact, I think maybe I might start taking him on walks or training or something first before I get a puppy or even if I don't.

Although I think he's getting sicker so nowhere near as active and he is somewhat reactive to dogs which is why I don't walk him but even just to the mailbox (our driveway is really long) or through our woods might be fun for him. He can't go far anymore but maybe I could get him in shape. We used to do a loop at night that was like a mile but now I don't think he could make it that far but maybe baby steps.

His nails also desperately need to be trimmed which I think might make him feel better? They say that can really affect their joints and alignment and everything. He is aggressive about it though so we need to make a vet appointment to sedate him or muzzle him and pin him down or something.

Yes having too long of nails is painful.
