➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Our favorite hen isn’t doing very good. I know molting can take a lot out of them but she’s walking so stiffly, she has bumblefoot so that’s why, her leg feathers have all fallen out and are trying to regrow but you can tell they hurt. She has never held her weight well either. If we get any cold, wetness this winter we’ll probably lose her. :(
As much as the feathers growing in will makes her legs painful, treat the bumblefoot as soon as you can. My favourite roo died from it last month.

I hope I haven't lost the thread here. I think you are talking of a molting hen who is having the problems? I've had hens do a hard molt that I wasn't sure were going to make it. They stop eating, they hang out by themselves, they sleep in nest boxes. All of mine have eventually pulled through, but it has made be appreciate how hard molting can be.

I think the canned salmon is a great idea -- basically some extra protein.
That's kind of what I think is happening with one of my hens. She's actually spending a lot of her time roosting, even in the middle of the day. She has definitely lost the most feathers so far.
