➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I have 4 nesting boxes in our big coop. It's a vertical piece so 2 boxes on the top, 2 on the bottom. I bought 2 pkgs of those fake eggs since they come with 2 eggs in them each so that gave me 4 eggs. I had a fake egg in each box and the girls would only use 2 of the 4 boxes. They preferred the bottom boxes. My hubby decided to take the 2 bottom eggs out and just put them in the top for the time being. He said, "I doubt we need these anymore, I just set them up there for now." The girls were so confused! They ended up laying in the top boxes with the fake eggs. It just amused me. I have a fake egg in 3 of the 4 boxes now because I took one out to put in that doghouse for the ducks. Chickens can be so quirky! I love 'em!
I meant hen as in duck hen oops! But yes, our chicken hens prefer the egg boxes more than the non! They tend to break the fake ones by tossing them out though with their constant nest re-arrangements.

Elvis is finally crowing now. If you can call it that. :gig This was Dec 20th. That's the first time I heard him. He was 15 1/2 weeks old. That's crazy to me that he took so long. Bowie has been crowing since 7 1/2 weeks old.

He is the first squawk. He's hard to see but is on the roosting bar next to Priscilla in that little coop. Bowie then answers. They were taking turns crowing back and forth but I only got the tail end of it.
Hah! Enjoy these days while they last. :gig Our rooster has taken to constant crowing and him being a large Australorp means he's sooooo loud!

I had to change my poll answer

Someone came home will a bunch of fireworks today.
:he
Oh joy. I'm hoping that since our neighbors are really old that they won't do any, but we also just had a new family move in a couple days ago a few houses down and they have lots of kids so we'll see. :barnie

Bowie's crow is getting pretty good. It's still not a full cock-a-doodle-do but it's getting strong and louder. He is a talker too. He is constantly softly bawk-bawking as he piddles around. And he will crow multiple times a day. Morning, noon or evening. He doesn't have a time preference. Just whenever the mood strikes him.

Negan has decided that mood is every 15 minutes. It's been getting annoying to be honest. I like silkie roosters and Elvis is so handsome! I can't wait to see how they cross on your big girls. :gig

I can't wait either! I am so curious as well. Bowie is being a booger here lately at times. He has taken to chasing my buff orpington, Priscilla, around and biting at her tail. I think it's hormones and not pecking order. I can get his attention and get him to stop and they will all go back to being fine but it still irks me. And then he will do something cute, like discover his "happy feet" and I just melt. One of the big girls was on the outside in the big area and he was in their little fenced in area. They have this hardware cloth fence in between them. He was tapping his feet in front of her as she was checking him out. So I call it discovering his "happy feet". Learning to "dance" I am assuming. Don't roos dance for their girls? He thinks he is big stuff as long as there is a fence or barrier in between him and the big girls. Outside of the fence? He runs away from them. LOL He is adorable. Elvis has gone a few rounds with the big girls. It is amazing to watch. He jumps at them. Jumps above them. Runs underneath them. He is fast! He is something else. There's been some biting but no blood has been drawn as of yet. I know I have to let them play it out. I just watch them as best as I can. I need to get an updated pic of Bowie but here is one of Elvis that I took today. Bowie pecked him on his ears so they're a little purple. They're healing tho. For the most part, they leave each other alone. For now anyways.

Yep that would be dancing! We had our rooster's son chase and pull on hens too when his dancing would be ignored. The older hens will give the little men some attitude adjustments. Our sold boy was just so big he was able to force and hold them down.
