➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

So sorry about Gator, Kdog.
I can’t believe how many of you have lost your dogs in the last month or two. My heart goes out to every one of you, I’m dreading the day I lose one of my pups. :( You’re all so strong, it’s nice to know they’re all at peace after the long and happy lives they led.
We should start the saddest club ever. I mean, seriously. How many of us had to put our old timers down this Christmas season? Kiks, Nana, KDog, and myself? Anyone else?

Thank you! :D

No problem!

Whew, caught up.

Happy late birthday Beeps! Hope it was a good one. :)

And merry late Christmas everyone! Life has been crazy lately, but a good crazy.

Thank you so much Tes, this is so sweet

That would be the most depressing club ever lol

My hubby wanted to eat it right away but I told him that we should wait until we get a couple at least before we do. No more eggs yet tho. According to Meyer Hatchery Mallard Egg Production is 100-140 eggs per yr. So basically what I get from that is that I am going to have to be very patient because they don't lay often. Patience is NOT one of my strengths. :barnie
She ended up laying in the upper corner of their coop by their doorway, which isn't ideal for me but eh. I ended up giving a thorough cleaning of their coop today and I fixed up another Nesting Possibility for them outside of the coop.
The girls checking it out.

I made it nice and fluffy inside. I even put a little dip down in it with a fake chicken egg inside it. I know that doesn't mean that they will actually use it but... it would be easier for me to get the eggs out. LOL Is worth a try. :fl

I actually find that our hen will only lay in boxes with a fake in it. She usually picks one box and sticks with it unless I move the fake eggs around to different ones.

I have 4 nesting boxes in our big coop. It's a vertical piece so 2 boxes on the top, 2 on the bottom. I bought 2 pkgs of those fake eggs since they come with 2 eggs in them each so that gave me 4 eggs. I had a fake egg in each box and the girls would only use 2 of the 4 boxes. They preferred the bottom boxes. My hubby decided to take the 2 bottom eggs out and just put them in the top for the time being. He said, "I doubt we need these anymore, I just set them up there for now." The girls were so confused! They ended up laying in the top boxes with the fake eggs. It just amused me. I have a fake egg in 3 of the 4 boxes now because I took one out to put in that doghouse for the ducks. Chickens can be so quirky! I love 'em!

Elvis is finally crowing now. If you can call it that. :gig This was Dec 20th. That's the first time I heard him. He was 15 1/2 weeks old. That's crazy to me that he took so long. Bowie has been crowing since 7 1/2 weeks old.

He is the first squawk. He's hard to see but is on the roosting bar next to Priscilla in that little coop. Bowie then answers. They were taking turns crowing back and forth but I only got the tail end of it.
