➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

LOL not very helpful! What store?

:celebrate

Congratulations!
Are you seriously going to keep them inside for 6 weeks?
My quailies are just one week old and I can't get them outside quick enough. They are going out tomorrow.

Agreed. I had mine in for 3 weeks and it was way too long lol

Great choices. What in the world is a Lakeshore? Are they new this year?

I think they added them last year.

I would not buy them.

I didn't. I didn't bother with any of the extras.

Thanks! And probably. I will play it by ear and adjust the time accordingly but I am figuring around 6 weeks. I want them to be feathered out and able to withstand the chilly night temps is all.

Here is a link to the Meyer page for Lakeshore Egger. It has a description and pics and stats.

They are supposed to be active and friendly and a good layer of around 270 Large eggs annually.

They actually feather faster outside because they are out in the temps and acclimate. And have you considered using a mama heating pad?

And they seem like a good breed!

You beat me to it. LOL

Having them inside truly doesn't bother me. I always miss them when I have to put them outside. I love going over to them and talk to them and interact with them and hearing their wittle peep peep peeps.

Whoops, sorry LOL

And trueee, I like talking to them too but they are just so messy lol

We use a heat plate. So it is similar in concept but different. When we see them sleeping around the edges or outside of it we turn it off. It usually doesn't take long. All of my chicks seemed to feather out pretty fast.

Ahh that makes sense. That’s good then!! I think with the heat plates or MHPs they feather faster anyway, whether indoor or outdoor, than they do with the heat lamps cause they’re not constantly under heat and are kept a little cooler and can choose when they need the heat. With the heat lamps, they don’t really need their feathers for longer

I agree. I don't think those heat lamps give them the opportunity for their little bodies to adjust to environmental temps, which I think slows down their growing. I don't have any scientific data that proves that but from my limited experience that I have had so far, it seems to work out that way. And I don't like how hot they get. Our heat plate doesn't use much in the way of electricity either so that is another nice thing. It works for us.
